Twenty responsible of the Panama Maritime Authority and the Panama Canal are interested in the coordination of inspections with container traffic in Valenciaport.

Valencia, November the 2nd 2017. – Valenciaport received this week the visit of a delegation from Panama, led by its Minister of Agricultural Development, Eduardo Enrique Carles Pérez, interested in knowing how the port of Valencia coordinates the relationship between customs, inspection services and port cargo controls. The delegation, made up of twenty people from the Panama Maritime Authority and the Panama Canal, has been attended by Aurelio Martínez, president of the Port Authority of Valencia.

During the meeting, the Minister of agricultural development of Panama stressed that “Panama is a logistics enclave of maximum global relevance and, therefore, we want to see how Valencia, a port of maximum relevance, organizes and manages such a high volume of goods with the highest quality. We want to study how customs is coordinated with phytosanitary inspections and traffics that provide the three main shipping companies in the world.”

Aurelio Martínez has highlighted that Valenciaport is a privileged platform for ships on their route from Asia to America due to its strategic location in the Mediterranean. He also recalled that Valenciaport is the leading port in the Mediterranean, the fifth in Europe and the 28 in the world in container traffic.

At the meeting, José García de la Guía, director of information technologies, explained the relevance of the ValenciaportPCS platform as well as the new applications they have developed for mobile telephony for both land and rail transport. Subsequently, they held a meeting with Manuel Garín, director of international development of the Valenciaport Foundation to analyze the possibility of establishing collaboration agreements for the development of technological applications. The visit also included a tour of the port of Valencia where they had the opportunity to meet Noatum Container Terminal Valencia.

Traffic with Panamá

Currently, Valenciaport manages around 12,000 TEUs of import / export foreign trade with Panama. With regard to the traffic of tonnes, in the last three years, a constant increase in the volume of goods is taking place. Specifically, in 2016, Valenciaport channeled 126,000 tonnes with origin/ destination to Panama, 12,000 more than in 2015 and 24,000 more than in 2014.

The port of Valencia has 8 regular lines with China of 4 different shipping lines being the main ports with which Balboa, Cristóbal and Manzanillo trade.
