València, 8th de Juny de 2023.- Valenciaport has presented its competitive advantages for the management of project cargo (of special dimensions and weights) at the Breakbulk Europe 2023 Fair. In this regard, the delegation of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) that travelled there has detailed in the different meetings held their capacities facilities to handle ‘project cargoes’ that exceed the dimensions of a standard container.
Specifically, the PAV has highlighted the capacity of its terminals to handle special cargoes and has emphasised the road traffic service offered by the port infrastructures. Over the last 10 years, the Port of Valencia has experienced a 122% growth in this type of traffic, from 5.8 million tonnes in 2012 to 12.9 million tonnes in 2022.
At Breakbulk Europe, the APV highlighted the specialisation of the Port of Sagunto in the handling of special cargo and the competitive advantages offered by its facilities in the short term. The Valenciaport facilities have specific cranes and qualified personnel for handling goods of special dimensions and weights.
The PAV was represented at the fair by Néstor Martínez, head of Commercial and Business Development, and Manuel García, head of Business Intelligence. During the presentation, they highlighted the characteristics of the three enclosures managed by the APV, which currently handles 79.3 million tonnes of goods per year, 75% of which are containerised. Valenciaport is positioned as the fourth European port in TEU management and the main port in Spain, as well as being the best connected in the Spanish port system.
In 2022, Valenciaport moved a total of 12,946,088 tonnes of ro-ro traffic, consolidating its position as the Spanish port with the highest volume of goods transported by ships that load or unload products with their own wheels, such as lorries or industrial vehicles. This type of traffic has doubled in volume in the last 10 years, which is attributed to the promotion of the motorways of the sea, fast and sustainable maritime routes that connect the València and Sagunto precincts with the main logistics platforms in the Mediterranean and other areas of Europe.
The APV attended Breakbulk Europe in collaboration with Puertos del Estado and formed part of the stand shared with 19 other port authorities under the slogan “Specialists in all things special”. With more than 600 exhibiting companies from over 120 countries and more than 10,000 visitors, Breakbulk Europe is the leading trade fair for bulk cargo, project cargo logistics and ro-ro traffic in Europe, providing an ideal platform for Valencian ports and port-logistic operators to show attendees the possibilities for handling and transporting any type of goods from Spain to any destination in the world.
