València, Juny 7th, 2023.- The Port of Valencia as a guarantee of access to world markets and with excellent connectivity. This is how all the agents involved in the development of the project of the new logistics-intermodal platform of Alcázar de San Juan presented this morning at the International Logistics Exhibition (SIL 2023) have described the Valencian precinct.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Minister of Public Works, Nacho Hernando; the Mayor of Alcázar de San Juan, Rosa Melchor; the Director General of Transport and Mobility, Rubén Sobrino; Francesc Sánchez, Director General of Valenciaport; the Mayor of Illescas, José Manuel Tofiño; along with Sara Hernández and Mónica López from Deloitte.

The consulting firm Deloitte has been in charge of explaining the technical details of the project and the impact it will have on the area. During her speech, Hernández assured that “the participation of the Port of Valencia is fundamental for this project, as it is the best connected port in the Mediterranean”.

In this sense, according to UNCTAD, the Port of Valencia is the best connected in Spain and is among the top 20 in the world. Valenciaport’s docks are linked to a thousand other ports in the world with more than 100 regular lines that link Valencia with the regions of the five continents through the 130 shipping companies that operate.

Along these lines, the Mayoress of Alcázar de San Juan emphasised that “in this project we must thank the Port of Valencia for its great support for our intermodal platform. We have been working together with them for six years and they have made a great effort and have shown constancy and great professionalism”. To this he added that “this is the final stretch of the logistics platform project, which is ideal not only for the economic and business development of Alcázar de San Juan, but of the whole of Castilla-La Mancha”.

For his part, the Minister of Public Works emphasised that “we are moving ahead with the Alcázar de San Juan Dry Port project and we have the necessary allies to be able to move it forward, such as the Port of Valencia, the institutions of Castilla-La Mancha and, of course, the business sector”.

Francesc Sánchez, Director General of Valenciaport, was in charge of explaining the participation of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) in this initiative, which is one of its short-term strategic projects.

According to Sánchez, “its development fulfils objectives that provide the project with a great capacity of dragging such as: the expansion of the railway, the decarbonisation of the logistic activity, the creation of employment in inland Spain, the operational efficiency derived from the approach to the freight, the dynamisation of the local economy and the articulation of the territory, among others”.

Sanchez has also defended that “the railway is the best tool for the hinterland and its development in this area will improve the relationship with the companies in our hinterland. This project will make our entire area of influence benefit from the port with the best connectivity in the Mediterranean”.

In this sense, the general director of the PAV has assured that the Alcázar de San Juan Platform is key for three reasons: to provide companies in the area of influence of Valencia with greater accessibility to international markets in a more competitive and ecological way thanks to the railway; to be aligned with the strategy of decarbonisation and sustainability of freight transport; and for the contribution to the economic development of areas such as Castilla-La Mancha.

The new platform will occupy 14 hectares of land in its first phase of development and will be annexed to a classification terminal with 24 operational tracks and will have companies and staff specialised in railway transport and logistics.

The presentation ceremony took place within the framework of the International Logistics Exhibition, SIL Barcelona 2023, and it will unveil all the details of the future intermodal logistics platform that takes advantage of the historical railway node of Alcázar de San Juan to locate a new railway terminal and an associated area of industrial logistics land.
