The portal https://archivohistorico.valenciaport.com/ can now be navigated and searched in any of the three usual languages of Valenciaport (Spanish, Valencian and English)

Digital transformation is one of the priority objectives in Valenciaport’s Strategic Plan

València, November 14th, 2021.- The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has updated the website of its Historical Archive with more advanced technology that allows the user to search for historical documents in the three usual languages of Valenciaport: Spanish, Valencian and English. The aim of this renovation is to make it even easier for citizens and researchers from the rest of the world to access its historical documentary collections. Each user can select any of the three languages at any time during browsing, using a simple language selector.

The website displays the entire interface in the selected language, allowing both simple and complex queries to be carried out in that language, as well as selecting the series, types and subtypes of its Classification Table. When the user enters the search words in Valencian or English, the system automatically translates them and searches for them among its almost 100,000 pages of historical documents in Spanish. All the files and documents found are displayed translated, in the selected language, with their associated metadata: title, type, subtype, description, notes, references, etc.

For the adaptation into Valencian, the SALT tool of the Conselleria de Educación, Cultura y Deporte of the Generalitat Valenciana has been used. For the translation into English, Microsoft Azure services have been used. In this process, we have counted with the collaboration of the technological partner Encamina from the Port of Sagunto. In addition, technological mechanisms have been developed so that, in the future, when new documentary collections are added to the Historical Archive, the search indexes and metadata of each file and document added will be automatically translated.

With this action, Valenciaport reaffirms its cultural and scientific commitment to Valencian society, standardising the use of its language, and to the research community by extending the possibilities of consulting its historical documentary collections.

This initiative is part of one of the objectives of the Valenciaport Strategic Plan, which is the firm commitment to Digital Transformation to promote new digital business models and connectivity and to position the port as a ValenciaSmartPort committed to society.
