Valencia, 13th February 2020.- Technicians, specialists and engineers from the Industrial Communications Center, attached to the Department of Security, Environment and Facilities of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), have participated this week in the “Industrial automation, programmable automatons (PLC) and SCADAS (data acquisition and control systems)” course taught by Siemens. The training has focused especially on the methods to monitor and control the operation of the industrial systems installed in the ports of the PAV.

This course is part of the ongoing training this department gives to its members with the aim of guaranteeing the optimal functioning of the sensor, automation and control systems of the port facilities, as well as to deal with possible risks that may arise. Along with other equipment, they work on the automation of pumping systems that must act in the event of fire, medium and low voltage power grids, telemetry equipment for energy and fluids, as well as home automation and control of corporate buildings and automated management in entry and exit of vehicles, among others.

The PAV works to constantly update the training of its personnel and, for this reason, it organizes diverse training sessions throughout the year to learn first-hand about technological developments that may improve the operation of the ports, as well as to train its technicians in the latest disciplines.

Valenciaport has an industrial communications center that manages an industrial network (OT) interconnected with the port management computer (IT) network, to which all the data generated at the dock (by the equipment and facilities) is uploaded to make it accessible to the organization. Also, to make remote control possible. The industrial network allows control of the machinery, the electronics and the numerous sensors arranged in the three port areas of Valenciaport.
