The Italian shipping company Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV) begins the connection between Valencia with Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza

València, July 5th, 2021.- The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has handed over the “Socarrat”, the traditional Valencian terracotta tile designed with maritime motifs, to the GNV Sealand ferry of the Italian company Grandi Navi Veloci. The shipping company, which belongs to the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) group, will begin operating a new route from tomorrow, linking the Port of Valencia with those of Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza.

The general director of the APV has handed over the socarrat to the CEO of GNV, Matteo Catani, the representative of MSC, Carolina Lorente and the captain of the ferry Sealand, which is moored at the Perfecto Palacio quay. Specifically, this ship is 186 metres long, has a capacity for 880 people and 109 cabins.

The Italian company will operate two ships between the Valencian port and the Balearic Islands archipelago. In addition to the aforementioned ferry, the GNV Bridge, a new generation ferry built in 2021 for 1,000 passengers with a length of 203 metres and capacity for 153 cabins, will also sail the waters between València and the Balearic Islands.

The GNV shipping company, which is part of MSC, was founded in 1992 and is one of the main Italian shipping companies operating in the cabotage and passenger transport sector in the Mediterranean. Currently, with a fleet of 19 vessels, the company operates 8 lines in Italy connecting the mainland with Sardinia and Sicily and, with these new connections with the Balearic Islands, the number of international lines to and from Spain, France, Albania, Tunisia and Morocco rises to 16.
