València, September 9th, 2021.- What is the function of the ports? What types of goods do they handle? How are the quays built? These are some of the questions answered by two technicians from the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) who, through an informative video adapted to sign language, explain the purpose of the port enclosures. A format accessible to all audiences with images of port activity and visual drawings that explain the characteristics of the ports.

Specifically, the civil engineers Arturo Monfort, head of Infrastructure Planning and Port Development of the PAV, and María Guerra, PAV Public Domain technician, have participated in this video. Thus, Monfort explains the operation and types of docks to accommodate ships in the sheltered waters of the ports, the types of goods that are managed according to their nature or form of presentation, and the types of specialised terminals to operate each type of goods.

For his part, Guerra referred to intermodal transport and explained the commitment to promote the railway in the Valencian area and the characteristics of each of the ports managed by the PAV: València, which specialises in containers, Sagunto in liquid bulk and vehicles, and Gandia, which mainly operates paper reels.

The PAV is making a firm commitment to convert the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia into energy self-sufficient and decarbonised facilities in order to achieve the goal of zero emissions by 2030. These actions include specific projects in renewable energies with investments in wind power, photovoltaic or the construction of a new electrical substation; the promotion of intermodality through the railway; or the execution of sustainable infrastructures, among others.

This material is part of the 27th edition of the Civil Engineering and Environment Week, SICMA 2021, of which the PAV is an active part, an event organised by the School of Civil Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de València, to bring students closer to the reality of the profession of the different degrees taught at the School.

In recent years, Valenciaport has turned the use of social networks into a basic instrument for reinforcing the feeling of belonging to the Port Community and an essential bridge for better knowledge between the port community and the citizens of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia as a whole.
