During the last month of the year, Valenciaport has channeled 402,662 TEUs, 8.03% more than during the same month of 2017.

The historical record of the 5 million containers in a calendar year is confirmed, with a total of 5,103 .761 TEUs.

València, January 9, 2019.– Valenciaport closed the year 2018 with the best month of December in its history in container traffic. In the last month of the year, Valenciaport moved 402,662 TEUs (containers of 6.1 meters in length), a figure that represents a growth of 8.03% compared to the same month of 2017. The full containers, with 313,647 units, have advanced by 6.79% due to the good performance of imports, which, with 57,960 TEUs, grew by 13.34%; and exports that, with 72,248 containers, increase by 2.68%. Likewise, the transit of full containers registered an increase of 6.52% with a total movement of 183,439 units while empty containers experienced an increase of 12.66% to 89,015 TEUs.

The data is still provisional, but confirms the historical record reached by Valenciaport at the end of 2018, an exercise that will be remembered as the first Spanish and Mediterranean port to exceed the figure of 5 million TEUs. Specifically, 5,103,761 TEUs, according to provisional data provided by the Statistics Department of the Port Authority of Valencia. Based on these data and in annual terms, full containers have grown by 3.51% thanks to good records of imports (+ 10.38%) and traffic (+ 3.54%). On the other hand, in the global calculation, exports of full containers fell by 1.57% while empty containers increased by 3.54%.

Regarding total traffic, Valenciaport closed the year with a total of 75,361,902 tons channeled, 2.88% more than in 2017. These data are based on the good performance of general merchandise, both containerized general cargo and conventional general cargo, and solid bulk. In terms of foreign trade, both exports advanced with a total of 22.64 million tons (+ 2.14%) and imports, with 17.99 million tons (+ 6.31%). Traffic, on the other hand, advances 1.67%.

According to the provisional data advanced by the Port Authority of Valencia, the conventional general cargo closed the year with a growth of 18.21%. In total, around 2.15 million tons have been handled more than in 2017, reaching 13,934,681 tons. In the case of the containerized general cargo, with 56,977,839 tons, it rises 1.79%.

In the area of bulk, solids registered an increase of 11.20% to reach the figure of 2,534,113 tons, while liquids maintained the negative trend and closed the year with a decrease of 40.21% and a total movement of 1,915,269 tons.
