​​Valenciaport has been selected by the European Maritime Ports Organization (ESPO), as the European port of the month. During these days and until the beginning of the year, a detailed profile of Valenciaport will occupy a prominent place in the portal of the most important association of ports that exists at European level.

In this way ESPO, in the section in which each month stands out for its projection a European port, makes a complete review of Valenciaport in which highlights the main figures with which closes the year, as well as an exposition of its challenges and challenges by 2017 – among them the importance of maintaining competitiveness, adapting to market needs, increasing productivity or reducing port costs. In addition, the ESPO website talks about the main traffic, its port community or its energy efficiency policies, with which Valenciaport promotes the use of green energy to combat climate change and in recognition of its management of energy efficiency has just received the ISO 50001 certificate.

In addition, the European portal also reviews the main areas of competence of Valenciaport, including ports in the western Mediterranean, or forecasts of cruise traffic for 2017, a year in which it is expected that about 450,000 cruise passengers will pass through the port of Valencia.

Another aspect that stands out is Valenciaport’s innovation promotion, through the Valenciaport Foundation, an entity that acts as a reflection group for the port community and which constitutes a recognized research and innovation center of the port cluster Valencian.

European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO)

The European Sea Ports Organization, which was set up as a Working Group in 1974, represents the authorities, associations and port administrations of the seaports of the 23 Member States of the European Union and Norway at EU political level. In addition, ESPO also has observer members in Iceland and Israel.

With its headquarters in Brussels, the European Sea Ports Organization ensures that maritime ports have a clear voice in the European Union. In this sense, ESPO represents the common interests and promotes the common opinions and values of its members before the European institutions and their political leaders.
