Digital transformation is one of the priority objectives in Valenciaport’s Strategic Plan

València, September 8th, 2022.- The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has added almost 9,000 documents to its Historical Archive website, comprising 52,000 pages, digitised from the notebooks of the València, Cullera and Canet de Berenguer lighthouses, which cover key and exciting moments in Spanish and Valencian history from 1858 to 1976. This initiative is part of Valenciaport’s aim to promote digital transformation, as well as its commitment to transparency and civil society and research.

The PAV’s online Historical Archive is a free public access tool through which files and documents dating mainly from the period between the mid-19th century and 1940 can be consulted, as well as the Annual Reports published by the different bodies managing the port from the mid-19th century to the present day.

Among the newly published documents, those related to the lighthouses of Valencia, Cullera and Canet de Berenguer stand out, especially the last two, for which there was no information in the archive to date. It should be noted that among the published records of the lighthouses, many communications can be found between the mechanical technician in charge of the lighthouse and the chief engineer of ports and things, reporting incidents, meteorological reports or stocks and consumption. Also included are log books of operations, services, meteorological observations, inventories and basins, and files on various construction, repair and improvement projects.

It is worth mentioning the publication of a collection of photographs donated by Francisco Roca Monzó which correspond to bombardments on the Port of Valencia which took place during the Civil War of 1936-1939.
This initiative is part of one of the objectives of the Valenciaport Strategic Plan, which is the firm commitment to Digital Transformation to promote new digital business models and connectivity, and to position the Port of Valencia as a SmartPort committed to society.
