The members of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of València (PAV) meeting today in the Clock Building have thanked the efforts made by the entire port and logistics community and public institutions last November to ensure the functioning of the supply chain after the passage of the cut-off low. He also highlighted the uninterrupted work to restore transport infrastructures and the normal functioning of the logistics sector and business activity in the shortest possible time.
The shock plan developed to guarantee the supply of goods after the passage of the cut-off low on 30 October – and following the destruction of the main Valencian transport infrastructures – has ensured the reception of supplies from the outset. The extension of timetables in the port terminals, the prioritisation of management for unloading containers (import) and the close public-private collaboration have managed to guarantee the arrival of goods at a critical time.
In this regard, the prioritisation of container import management established by Valenciaport during the days following the disaster has meant that in November the Valencian docks have recorded an increase of +21.04% in TEU’s unloaded, traffic considered essential both for the recovery of the population and the business and industrial activity of the affected area.
After the tragedy, the Valencian docks maintained their activity uninterruptedly thanks to the joint work of terminal operators, PAV and port services. This work was carried out in collaboration with the administrations – local, regional and national – as well as with business organisations, State security forces and bodies, hauliers and logisticians, and prevented the operating capacity of the business and industrial logistics chain of the Region and the Port of València’s sphere of influence from being reduced. For their part, and as is logical after the stoppage of activity of Valencian companies, exports have been reduced, and during this month the number of cargo containers handled has registered a fall of -19.68%.
In general, according to the Statistical Bulletin of the Port Authority of València, the eleventh month of the year has presented a traffic structure in the Valencian docks with a growth of +3.88% in the management of containers and a fall of -6.39% in the management of tonnes. The accumulated data for the year (from January to November and in comparison, with the same period in 2023) show an increase of +13.92% in the number of TEU’s and +4.57% in tonnes.
With reference to the December activity, the reactivation of the rail service in Valencia has allowed that the freight traffic circulating between the peninsular centre and the logistic terminals of the Port of València or Sagunto can recover from this week their usual and more direct route, avoiding the additional 700 kilometres that the goods had to travel on the railway to reach Madrid.
Likewise, Valenciaport closes the year leading the Spanish ranking of the PLSCI (Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index), drawn up by UNCTAD and which scores the degree of connectivity of the ports with the rest of the countries of the world.
Meeting of the Board of Directors
All these data from the Statistical Bulletin for the month of November were analysed and assessed at today’s meeting of the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), which was held today in the Clock Building.
With regard to the agreements reached, the Board of Directors approved the 925 kWn photovoltaic installation project for individual self-consumption without surplus and 29 charging points for electric vehicles presented by APM Terminals.
At the meeting, the PAV’s Business Plan 2025 project was also approved and the presentation of two bids for the project tender for the port-city interaction through the northern area of the Port of Sagunto was reported.
