Seventeen journalists from the most important agencies and TV stations in China visit the port of Valencia.

The entry of Cosco Shipping Ports Limited into the shareholding of Noatum Ports increases the interest in knowing the potential of the Spanish-Chinese commercial collaboration.

Valencia, August the 13th 2018. – Seventeen Chinese journalists, from eight important media, visited the Port of Valencia this weekend and the Noatum Terminal facilities, the largest ship and container management infrastructure of the Port of Valencia.

The representatives of the Chinese media got to know the Noatum terminal from the hand of its CEO, Sun Kai. Later they had a meeting with the general director of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), Francesc Sánchez, in the Clock Building.

Sánchez explained to the Asian media the basis of the leadership of the Valencian port in its relationship with the Chinese ports; “A leadership that is based on the importance of the hinterland of the port, in its character as a mixed hub, in its safety and efficiency, in its technology for cargo management and its connectivity”.

“China – explained the director of Valenciaport – is a strategic country for the port of Valencia, given that 50% of foreign trade between Spain and that important country passes through the port of Valencia. In the last two years, traffic with China is maintaining a positive trend going from 5.77 million tons handled in 2015 to 6.97 million tons moved in 2017, which represents a growth of around 21%. ”

The director of Valenciaport answered to the Chinese media that the one of Valencia was the only Spanish port enclosure invited in 2017 to attend the “International Forum on the Belt and Road Port Cities”, the most important international meeting about ports and cities related to the new Silk Road.

“There,” added Francesc Sanchez, “we could detail why Valencia is considered a nerve center and a reference point in the new Silk Road. They are issues that also arouse great interest in other cities and ports of China. ”

“It is worth remembering – he explained – that the city of Valencia and all the Valencian territory are closely linked to the silk and international trade that the silk industry brings with it. For almost 5 centuries, between the S XIV and the S XIX the “rattle” that was heard in the center of the city, in the Pilar neighborhood of Valencia, was the one that emerged from its more than 4,000 silk looms. The Silk Guild, from “Velluters”, contributed decisively to the construction of the Lonja. Building Heritage of Humanity. In fact, the Lonja de los Mercaderes – as it was its original name – was renamed the Lonja de los Mercaderes de la Seda because of the importance of transactions based on this product. Silk was one of the flagship products of the export of the Port of Valencia. In the year 1834, silk represented 53 percent of the total value of agricultural exports and 23 percent of the Valencian total, “explained Francesc Sánchez.
