Valencia, August 13th 2018. – Valenciaport closed the month of July with a total traffic of 2,924,394 TEU, up 5.46% over the same period of the previous year. This rise is based on the performance of full containers that have experienced an advance of 3.33%, mainly due to imports that increase 10.91% and traffic that grows up 3.90%. On the other hand, exports of full containers maintain the negative path with a decrease of 3.41% while empty containers increase by 13.55%.

With regard to total traffic, during the seven months of the year, the three ports managed by the Port Authority of Valencia (Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia) have handled a total of 43,520,057 tonnes, 1.49% more than in 2017. Foreign trade of general cargo advances 4.20% to a total of 14,272,255 tonnes. In particular, imports, with 5.63 million tons, increase by 14.90% due to good records from countries such as China (+5.48%), Italy (+20.91%); Turkey (+ 24.73%) and the United States (+ 5.51%). On the contrary, exports fell by 1.76% with 8.66 million tonnes driven by the results of countries such as China (-34.71%), Saudi Arabia (-30.55%) and Morocco (-24, 70%). By contrast, exports to Italy and the United States increased by 24.06% and 24.59%, respectively. Total transit increases 1.38% during the first seven months of the year.

Traffic by type of goods

Taking into account the data of the statistical bulletin of the Port Authority of Valencia corresponding to the month of July, the conventional general cargo has experienced an increase of 13.79% with a total traffic of 7,710,895 tonnes. This rise is due to good cargo data such as steel products, with a movement of 1.60 million tonnes and an increase of 19.09%; and automobiles and pieces, with a movement of 1.06 million tonnes and an increase of 14.36%. By units, the ports of Valencia and Sagunto have handled 505,024 vehicles, a 5.24% more than during the same period of 2017. In this same line, the ro-ro traffic has grown by 11.76% until exceeding 6, 07 million tons.

Regarding the containerized general cargo, until the month of July has moved 33,058,196 tonnes, 1.04% more than during the same period of 2017. In this section highlight the movements of goods as the elaborated materials of construction that, with 3.15 million tonnes, retreats by 6.99%; other goods that, with 1.36 million tonnes, increased by 7.14%; and the chemical products that, with 1.21 million tonnes, amount to 8.93%.

In terms of solid bulk, until July, Valenciaport has channeled 1,427,045 tonnes, an increase of 11.68%. This increase is due to the records of goods such as cereals and their flours, which, with 787,000 tonnes, increase by 40.11%. On the other hand, natural and artificial fertilizers decreased by 18.85%, with a total of 260,000 tonnes. In the case of liquid bulks, this type of goods continues the downward trend. In total, during the first seven months of the year 1,171,286 tonnes have been moved, which represents a decrease of 39.33%. This heading includes goods such as chemical products, with a movement of 205,000 tonnes and an advance of 1.28%; diesel, with a movement of 190,000 tonnes and a decrease of 4.20%; and natural gas, with a movement of 123,000 tonnes and a drop of 87.89%.

Passenger traffic

According to the data of the statistical bulletin of the month of July, a total of 529,800 passengers have used the ports of Valencia and Gandia for their maritime movements. This figure represents a decrease of 1.21% with respect to the figures obtained in 2017. In particular, regular line traffic drops by 1.56%, with a total of 345,447 people; while cruise traffic drops by 0.55% to 184,353 passengers.

Traffic by countries and geographical areas

The five countries shipping with the highest volume of goods channeled through Valenciaport until July were: Spain, with 5.24 million tons and an advance of 3.96%; United States, with 3.84 million tons and an increase of 33.67%; China, with 3.73 million tons and a decrease of 10.96%; Italy, with 3.35 million tons and an increase of 20.40%; and Turkey, with 2.33 million tons and an increase of 12.01%. By geographical areas, the Mediterranean and Black Sea areas stand out, with a traffic of 12.22 million tons and an increase of 12.79%; and that of the Far East, with traffic of 5.62 million tons and a decrease of 10.44%.
