A delegation from the Centre for Public Works Studies and Experimentation (CEDEX) visited the Port of Valencia’s facilities

The delegation, made up of 40 representatives, toured the North Extension where the new container terminal and the MSC and Valencia Terminal Europa terminals will be located.

València, November 9th, 2022.- The technicians of the Centre for Public Works Studies and Experimentation (CEDEX), a public organisation oriented towards public works, mobility, the environment and climate change, highlighted the commitment being made by Valenciaport in the development of infrastructures that combine growth and sustainability. The Ports and Coasts group of this institution paid a visit to the Port of Valencia to learn about the daily operation of the leading container port in Spain and the fourth in Europe.

The president of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), Aurelio Martínez, made a presentation to the CEDEX delegation, which was headed by its director, Áurea Perucho and the director of the Ports and Coasts Centre, José María Grassa. During the presentation, the APV explained initiatives such as the new container terminal to be in the inland waters of the northern extension or the public passenger terminal, two examples of public-private collaboration of state-of-the-art sustainable actions to face global challenges. Projects such as the installation of photovoltaic plants, the construction of electrical substations or the use of hydrogen in port operations were also explained at the meeting.

In the presentation made by the head of Valenciaport, the importance of the Valencian site, the leading container port in Spain and the fourth in Europe, for its area of influence was highlighted. From the Valencian docks, Spanish goods are taken to any country in the world thanks to its connection with more than 1,000 ports and its commercial relations with 168 countries. Moreover, the investments that are being made to improve intermodality and the use of the railway, as well as the commitment to open innovation to attract talent and look for technological solutions in the logistics and mobility area were also mentioned.

The delegation, made up of 40 professionals from the Ports and Coasts Centre of CEDEX, visited the facilities of the Port of Valencia to know in situ the activity of the first container port in Spain and the fourth in Europe. Specifically, they visited the Contradique Sur and the viewpoint of the North Extension, where they saw a panoramic view of the future container terminal to be in the sheltered waters of this infrastructure. The representatives of this public body also toured the MSC container terminal and the automobile facilities of Valencia Terminal Europa and Ford.

CEDEX is a leading public body in the field of public works, mobility, the environment and climate change, which is closely linked to the history of the port of Valencia, as the models and tests of the latest port developments, such as the breakwaters of the North Extension in the early 2010s or more recently the agitation study of the next northern container terminal, were carried out in its facilities.
