The exhibition will be open at the Casa Municipal de la Cultura de Sagunto until September 25 from 10h to 13h and 16h to 21h

“El Puerto de Forges” is a tribute from Valenciaport to one of the most renowned cartoonists in our country

This is a retrospective of the work of the renowned author who shows through images the values necessary for the construction of a more just present and future

València, September 4th, de 2020.- This morning the president of the Port Authority of Valencia, Aurelio Martínez, accompanied by the mayor of Sagunto, Darío Moreno, the councillor for Culture, Festivals and Popular Culture, Asun Moll, the general secretary of the Quevedo Institute of Humour of the University of Alcalá de Henares, Juan García, and the curator of the exhibition Ester Medán, officially opened “El Puerto de Forges”, a retrospective of the career of more than 50 years of the renowned graphic artist with a selection of works organized in five blocks: equality, the sea, the environment, social and cultural commitment and that reflect values that the author has transmitted in all his works during more than half a century of work for the construction of a more just present and future.

The retinue has travelled through more than a hundred vignettes on display and has coincided in highlighting the relevance of the message that Forges transmitted through his drawings and which is still valid today.

As the councillor for culture, Asun Moll, explained, “this is a retrospective exhibition that perfectly reflects a situation that is happening today but also decades ago, it seems that time has not passed”. The councilwoman has invited all citizens of the region to visit this exhibition to demonstrate “that culture should not stop. And that with all the guarantees of sanitary security can be visited perfectly”, has indicated.

The president of Valenciaport, Aurelio Martinez, said that this exhibition “is an example of the very good relationship between the Port Authority and the City of Sagunto. It also shows that a port is not only ships but also culture, social commitment, and integration Port-City, which is essential.

The Mayor of Sagunto, for his part, thanked all the people who had collaborated and made this exhibition possible “even more so in times like these, because they are dealing with subjects of great topicality such as the environment or gender equality seen from the perspective of Forges’ humour”.

Finally, Juan García, secretary of the Quevedo del Humour Institute, thanked “the work being done by the Port of Valencia and the Sagunto Town Council to disseminate a work such as Forges’, which is fully up-to-date”.

The exhibition, organized by the APV in collaboration with the City of Sagunto and the Quevedo Institute of the Arts of Humour at the University of Alcalá de Henares, will be open until September 25, from 10 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm, and to visit it has taken all the security measures agreed by the health authorities to ensure the presence of all citizens concerned.

“El Puerto de Forges” is a tribute from Valenciaport (the brand with which the ports of Sagunto, Gandia and Valencia work internationally) to one of the most renowned cartoonists in our country and a man of unquestionable human quality. The exhibition was already on display in the Clock Building of the Port of Valencia from December 20, 2019, until February 2 with a huge success of public, 12,000 people, who enjoyed the exhibition and the parallel activities that were organized on the occasion of the exhibition.

After its passage through Sagunto, the exhibition will move to Gandia.
