More than 500 photographs taken by visitors to the exhibition “Quino, Mafalda y Mucho Más” aspire to one of the three prizes that the Port of Valencia will award to the most applauded messages among the followers of the social networks

The port is encouraging people to upload images and photos of the exhibition to Instagram using the hashtags #MiMafalda or #LaMeuaMafalda

The exhibition, which can be visited free of charge until 30 January, has become a cultural attraction in Valencia, attracting visitors from all over Spain.

València, January 21st, 2022.- The exhibition “Quino. Mafalda and much more” organised by the Port of Valencia is proving to be much more than an exhibition. In addition to the more than 18,000 people who have already visited the Clock Building to see Mafalda, everyday visitors upload photographs to the Port’s Instagram, using the hashtags #MiMafalda and/or #LaMeuaMafalda. These are photographs of all kinds: gestures in front of a cartoon, group laughter, simulated dialogues with Mafalda, funny poses, or simply close-ups of a cartoon that for whatever reason has caught the visitor’s attention.

So far, with one week to go until 30 January, the last day of the exhibition, more than 200 people have uploaded hundreds of photographs to the networks, all of them aspiring to win three copies of Quino and Mafalda’s works. The contestants are people of all ages, from children photographed by their parents taking part in one of the workshops organised in the exhibition, to groups of teenagers posing next to some of the most vindictive vignettes of the protagonist, to adults and senior citizens imitating Mafalda’s postures in the image next to which they are photographed.

Among the most original images is that of a young girl posing next to one of the cartoons, pretending to hold one of the cartoon’s sandwiches, while wearing a printed dress full of “mini Mafaldas” and the famous phrase of the protagonist “this world is a soup”. Another of the most striking is one in black and white, in which a girl’s hair appears with the same red bow with white polka dots as Mafalda in colour, trying to convey the message that, in a world marked by inequalities, she brings a grain of light and colour towards hope.

The event has helped to strengthen the relationship between the Port of Valencia’s cultural commitment and the residents and tourists who have visited the Clock Building over the last few days. In addition to having their photograph taken with Mafalda, the people who have visited the exhibition have been able to meet and have their photograph taken with Felipe, Manolito, Susanita, Miguelito, Guille and Libertad, Mafalda’s friends who illustrate and give dialogue to the acid humour and criticism of social injustice and care for the world that characterise Quino’s work. They all hope to become one of the three winners to receive a copy of the book “Todo Mafalda” as a prize. In this way, the Port Authority of Valencia adapts to new technologies by developing a virtual competition linked to social networks but maintains the essence of the traditional by handing out a book in physical format to encourage reading.

What to see in the Mafalda exhibition?

The Mafalda exhibition has more than 200 cartoons, advertising posters, audiovisuals and publications in several languages that show the international projection of Quino’s work. The exhibition can be visited free of charge until 30 January and has a space dedicated to activities and workshops so that children can interact with the characters of the Argentinian cartoonist. In this way, the APV reinforces its commitment to the city and invites it to carry out actions that promote its culture and develop its critical spirit.
