Institutional and business representatives of the Castilla La Mancha region have presented this initiative to the Port Authority of València (PAV)

Valenciaport is going to study this project given that it is part of the objective of investing in the hinterland areas that generate cargo

València, January 21th, 2022.- Castilla La-Mancha will centralise the export and import strategy of the Albacete Logistics and Intermodal Platform in the Port of Valencia, an initiative of great importance for the companies of the province of La Mancha and the region as a whole. The Port Authority of València (PAV) was informed of this dry port project in the province of Albacete by an institutional and business delegation that visited the Port of València.

The representation from La Mancha was led by Emilio Sáez, Mayor of Albacete; Ignacio Hernando, Minister of Development of the government of Castilla-La Mancha (JCCM) – who participated online – and the President of the Provincial Council, Santiago Cabañero, who held a meeting in the Clock Building with Aurelio Martínez, President of the PAV- who also attended online – and Francesc Martínez, Director General of the PAV, to explain the characteristics of this logistics and intermodal platform.

After learning about this initiative, Aurelio Martínez emphasised that “the institutional unity associated with the business alliance means that this logistics project has a very positive starting point”.  According to the president of the PAV, Valenciaport moves 20,000 containers to/from Albacete, a traffic demand that may increase in the coming years due to the projects that are going to be promoted from the province of La Mancha.

For his part, Francesc Sánchez indicated that “at Valenciaport we are going to study this initiative as it is an interesting project for the Port of València as part of our plan to invest in the areas of the hinterland that generate cargo”.

Bringing this initiative closer to the Port of València

The Mayor of Albacete pointed out about the dry port that “it is a necessity for Castilla La-Mancha and the province of Albacete to bring this initiative closer to the Port of Valencia, an important option for the future so that this platform becomes a satellite of the logistics strategy of the Valencian precinct”. According to Emilio Sáez, “the new investments that are going to arrive in the industrial estates of Albacete are going to be an opportunity for the relationship between the Port of València and the intermodal logistics platform to be a successful journey”.

In this sense, the minister of Development, Ignacio Hernando, pointed out that “we are another arm of the Port of València and we want to contribute with this logistic platform to promote intermodality with the railway”.

In the same way, the President of the Provincial Council of Albacete has underlined that “this commercial alliance between the dry port and the Port of València is an opportunity for the potential of Albacete companies that have in Valencia their natural outlet to the sea. With this project we can take another step forward in this relationship with the most important port in Spain”.

Thus, the CEO of the Candelo Group, one of the private promoters of this initiative, has indicated that “this inland rail-port terminal will facilitate the connection and import/export commercial operations with the most important container port in Spain. With the commitment to this intermodal project we will gain in efficiency and sustainability. It is an example of public-private collaboration that generates wealth for the benefit of society as a whole”.
