The head of Valenciaport yesterday opened the Master’s Degree in Business Development organised by the University of Zaragoza on the Teruel campus

He explained that “from Valencia it is possible to place Spanish goods in any country in the world, which is why the connections between the port and the interior of the Peninsula must be improved so that no exporter or importer misses out on opportunities

The president of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), Aurelio Martínez, yesterday opened the Third Edition of the Master’s Degree in Business Development organised by the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the University of Zaragoza on the Teruel campus. The opening conference focused on the growing importance that the large ports are acquiring in an international commercial context in which there is a tendency towards the business concentration of shipping companies and port service providers.

“The ships are getting bigger and bigger; in the Port of Valencia, container ships of 400 metres in length are already common, and they need efficient and safe services, qualified personnel, and all kinds of attention to ensure the completion of more than 5,000 movements in a few days, so the port needs to attend to this type of traffic, which is what connects us and positions us with competitive advantages to export in better conditions, are also greater”, Martínez explained.

“Neither Teruel, nor Aragon, nor any city or industrial area in the hinterland (area of influence) of the Port of Valencia can be left out of such a competitive connectivity as that offered by Valenciaport to all its users. From Valencia – said Aurelio Martínez – it is possible to place Spanish goods in any country in the world, so it is necessary to improve the port’s connections with the interior of the Peninsula so that no exporter or importer misses out on opportunities. We, as a port with a service vocation, are investing in railways, intermodal projects and sustainability. We are the great port of Valencia, but we are also the port of Teruel, Zaragoza, Madrid, Albacete, Extremadura; of a very wide area of influence where more than 50% of the Spanish GDP is generated”.

The Teruel Business Development Master’s Degree has the collaboration of the CEOE, the Caja Rural and the Teruel Chamber of Commerce, as well as other companies from Teruel.

At the end of the conference of the President of the Port of Valencia – held at the Colegio Mayor Pablo Serrano – a round of speeches was opened for students and attendees, where the importance of the investments made by the Port Authority of Valencia in various railway sidings in Zaragoza and Teruel was recognised. These investments have been backed from the outset by the social and institutional support of Teruel and have allowed traffic between Zaragoza and Valencia to increase from 2 to 35 trains a week in just a few years.
