In the liquor section, the labels of ‘kola’, a soft drink from Aielo de Malferit, a Valencian drink that was presented in Philadelphia in 1885 and was the origin of a famous soft drink, stand out.

There is also an area dedicated to wines and beers that reflect the Valencian tradition in this field, from the 19th century to the present day.

The exhibition ‘València, Porta al Disseny. Exportació dels nostres productes als segles XIX i XX’ can be visited free of charge until 6 November in the Clock Building from Monday to Sunday between 11.00 am and 6.00 pm.

The formula for a famous cola soft drink has always been a mystery, although everything points to its origin in the drink that was marketed in the mid-19th century in Aielo de Malferit…. and as proof of this, in the exhibition ‘València, Porta al Disseny. Exportació dels nostres productes als segles XIX i XX’, you can see some of the original labels and bottles of this Valencian drink. A good plan to discover this weekend part of the history of design and the exporting vocation of Valencian society.

This is one of the curiosities that the more than 6,000 people who have already visited the exhibition with which Valenciaport has sought to highlight the entrepreneurial capacity of the Valencian people over many years to sell their products around the world through the Port of Valencia. Products such as oranges or liqueurs, which have always gone hand in hand with design and creativity to attract attention outside our borders. Neighbours, tourists and groups of visitors, such as the Propeller Junior, have already visited the exhibition.

Valenciaport also wanted to recognise the producers of alcoholic beverages and spirits, many of them derived from citrus fruits, fruits and local herbs, whose labels displayed the creativity of our designers and proudly displayed the name of their town. Dry liqueurs, fine liqueurs, sweets, creams and soft drinks that were produced in Cabanyal and Grau, Xàtiva, Aielo de Malferit or Real de Montroi.

València, Porta al Disseny. Exportació dels nostres productes als segles XIX i XX’ can be visited free of charge – from Monday to Sunday between 11.00 and 18.00 hours – in the Clock building of the Port of Valencia. The exhibition has 300 labels and posters of oranges, but also of other products, and photographs of the activity that took place on the Valencian docks during these years.

The quality of the materials on display, apart from the design and the drawings of the creators, stand out for the perfect printing which, despite the years that have passed, still maintain the colours and the waxing, which reflects the great work carried out by the designers and typographers at the beginning of the century.
Spirits, wines and beers

In the exhibition, which focuses mainly on orange exports, visitors can also find a section dedicated to wines and beers, with the participation of wineries such as Bebendos, Cherubino Valsangiacomo, Celler del Roure, Vicente Gandia and Cerveses Lluna. Valencian wine has been a product with a great exporting tradition from the Port of Valencia that continues today. Many of these wineries are heirs to a long family tradition which, as their ancestors did, have known how to position themselves with products of excellent quality and the use of design in their brand image.

With this exhibition, Valenciaport joins in the celebration of the city of Valencia as World Design Capital 2022, making known the importance that the Port had and has in the export of Valencian products and the designs that accompany them.
