The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) promotes investment projects of over 2,000 million euros that will generate thousands of jobs

The PAV has advanced its interest in investing in the new dry port that Adif is developing in Vicálvaro (Madrid)

In the coming weeks an agreement will be signed between Adif, the Generalitat and the PAV for the development of the intermodal terminal of Font de Sant Lluis.

The Board of Directors of March will approve the specifications for the new passenger terminal.

Valencia, January 23, 2019.- The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, and the president of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), Aurelio Martínez, held a meeting today at the Palau de la Generalitat where they reviewed the main projects in which Valenciaport is working. During the meeting, Puig has ratified the commitment of the Generalitat to the Strategic Plan of the APV and the projects in which the port is immersed. “In the coming years, it will generate an investment of over 2,000 million euros and will allow the creation of of thousands of jobs. The port is fundamental for the Valencian economy because it represents around 2.6% of our GDP and around 2.3% of employment and is key to our community’s ability to grow, advance and generate employment.”

Puig has listed the main strategic axes on which Valenciaport is working, including the new terminal for the northern extension. “This terminal, which will involves an investment of 1,200 million euros, will mean doubling the container handling capacity that the port currently has. It is expected that the plicas will open on May 8 and I know that there is great international interest in it”, said the president of the Generalitat. Regarding the ZAL, Puig explained that it is expected that in February the plots of this logistics area will be tendered; and bid all at once. “There is a very large demand for this space so, for sure, during the month of April, the plots of the ZAL are awarded. In addition, for its awarding, the PAV will value not only the economic reasons but also the social clauses to help generate employment in the maritime towns. The start-up of this new area will generate around 2,000 jobs.”

The president of the Generalitat has also referred to the north access indicating that it is necessary “ to provide connectivity to the large logistics areas of the ports of Valencia and Sagunto. For this, the solution that has been adopted and that we share is the underground tunnel by sea that will avoid problems in the urban environment”. In this sense, Puig has indicated that it is expected to sign a protocol between the Ministry of Development, the Generalitat and the PAV for the development of this project that will involve an investment of approximately 400 million euros and will be co-financed between the Ministry and the own PAV.

As for Parc Sagunt, Ximo Puig explained that Parc Sagunt I is already a reality and that they are working to develop Parc Sagunt II. “To do this, we have the support of the PAV that has confirmed that the 31 million euros obtained from the sale of their plot in Parc Sagunt I will be used for investments to advance the development of Parc Sagunt II to the maximum” In this area, Aurelio Martínez has affirmed that, precisely, Parc Sagunt II is the most outstanding performance of all “because of the impact it may have in the future, since it is necessary to bear in mind that the companies that have come here, have done because there was land available. At the moment there is a demand for very important logistics land and it is necessary to anticipate because the investor who comes needs immediate availability of that space and, in case of not having it, he chooses another location.”

Puig has also indicated that another of the strategic projects in which the PAV is working has to do with the development of dry ports, where it has a presence in Zaragoza and Madrid and is studying new locations in Andalucia, Aragon or Murcia. In this regard, Aurelio Martínez has confirmed the interest of the APV for investing in the new dry port that Adif is developing in the Madrilenian town of Vicálvaro. “All these investments -Ximo Puig continued, -are absolutely linked to the Saint Luis Fountain project. In the coming weeks it is expected that an agreement between Adif, the PAV and the Generalitat will be signed to unblock this project and turn this area into a reality.”

The president of the Generalitat has also valorate possitively the effort that the APV is developing to reduce its emissions. In particular, he pointed out that “soon two new hydrogen-powered machines will be put into operation and the construction of a new electric substation that will double the available capacity is planned. This new substation will allow cruise ships, when they dock at the port, to shut down their engines with the consequent energy savings and decrease in emissions.”

Regarding the cruise ships, during the meeting it was announced that the Board of Directors of next March is expected to approve the specifications for the new passenger terminal, which, according to Puig, “will improve the urban architecture of the port and the capacity and the comfort of the passengers”. In this sense, Aurelio Martínez has explained that the restoration and recovery of the ships will be assumed by the PAV itself.

On the other hand, Puig has also shown his satisfaction because the APV has accepted his request so that the employers Ascer tile has a permanent adviser in the Board of Directors of the institution.

The president of the Generalitat has concluded indicating that “the substantial progress that has taken place in the port of Valencia has a fundamental consequence, the improvement of the competitive capacity of the Valencian Community and the capacity to generate new jobs”.

Thanks to the support of the Generalitat

The president of the Port Authority, Aurelio Martínez, thanked Ximo Puig for the support received from the Generalitat. “It has been known to take advantage of the three years in positive for which the Spanish and Valencian economy is going through, to offer alternatives to the demand for land that exists on the part of companies; and this has been seen in Parc Sagunt and in the municipalities of the port environment”.

“The logistics floor, the north access, the new cruise, passenger and container terminals, the ZAL, … everything is a priority – the port president has reflected – but if I had to choose for a singular project, I would opt for Parc Sagunt II. The terminals, the north corridor / access and the ZAL of Valencia are already underway, but now the urgent thing is to enable spaces to attract new companies. We have applications every week; and we can not leave the opportunities of investment and generation of employment that pass through our offices. Parc Sagunt II is key. Also, for the project of the Fountain of Saint Luis. For all this, the support, collaboration and complicity of the Generalitat is fundamental. A support that is perceived and verified in each project, for which I am very grateful” concluded Aurelio Martínez.
