• The Port Authority of Valencia participates in a pilot project of the Institute of Biomechanics of València which aims to find out how the ‘mental load’ of workers influences their routines through monitoring bracelets
  • These devices collect information on the physical and cognitive state of the person with the aim of assessing their state throughout the working day

València, 28 November 2024.-Improving the well-being and safety of workers. This is the aim of the MCUV project (which stands for Monitoring and Characterisation of Users for the Development and Validation of Cognitive and Mental State Models). An initiative led by the Institute of Biomechanics of València (IBV), with the participation of the Port of València (PAV).

The ‘wellbeing bracelets’ are the technology used in this pilot project to find out how the ‘mental load’ of workers influences their routines. Víctor Prados and Sandra Moreno are the Port Authority volunteers participating in the study.

After the initial characterisation of the user to determine their baseline state, their condition is evaluated during working hours through the monitoring of the sensor-enabled wristband.

Giuseppe Caprara (IBV Innovation Manager) and Ricardo Bayona, researcher and director of the MCUV project, explained how the device works to the PAV employees participating in this pilot project.

‘Through this initiative, the aim is to know the ‘mental load’ of a person during their daily activity, to know the situations of greater cognitive demand and possibly adapt the protocols to increase the well-being of the staff while increasing the safety of the processes’, explained Caprara to the volunteers of the PAV. The project has the collaboration of the PAV, GDES, ETRA and S2 Grupo, and will conclude its activity in March 2025. It also has the support of the Conselleria d’Innovació, Indústria, Comerç i Turisme de la Generalitat Valenciana, through IVACE+i, with funding from the European Union, through the FEDER Comunitat Valenciana Programme 2021-2027.
