The Social Responsibility Action Group (CSR) of 28 Spanish public institutions and companies will focus on advances in transparency, public procurement and OD

Valencia, 25th March of 2019.- The Port Authority of Valencia, as a member of the Social Responsibility Action Group (RSE), has committed itself to strengthening commitments throughout the year 2019 in terms of transparency, achievement of the 2030 Agenda and responsible public procurement, assumed by this group of work of 28 companies and Spanish public entities, coordinated by Forética.

The first meeting of the year of the Social Responsibility Action Group was held on March 20 and has focused on the analysis of the implications of the Non-financial Information Law for the public sector. In addition, the meeting has addressed the latest trends and major advances at the national level in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, following the recent report presented by the Group on the contribution of public companies to the 2030 Agenda.

Representing Valenciaport was Pilar Blaya, for whom these meetings offer a unique opportunity to exchange experiences to address similar situations that public companies must face. In the opinion of Pilar Blaya, this project allows to know the casuistry of the public company in its effort to improve its contribution, and in response to the legislative changes and the social demands detected at a global level.

The Group has the support of Adif and the ICO as leaders and with 28 public entities: Adif, Aena, Aquavall, Canal Sur Radio and Television, CESCE, Corporación Empresarial Pública de Aragón, Correos, Emasesa, ENAIRE, Enresa, Extremadura Avante , Grupo ENUSA, Grupo Tragsa, ICEX Spain Export and Investment, ICO, INCIBE, INECO, INFORMA D & B, ISDEFE, ITVASA, Metro de Madrid, Paradores, Renfe, RTVE and Valenciaport. In addition, Agencia EFE, COFIDES and the National Health Social Responsibility Network participate as observer members.Sanitaria de Responsabilidad Social participan en calidad de miembros observadores.

The Group has presented its lines of work for this year, focusing on issues related to transparency (linked to the Law on Non-Financial Information), Agenda 2030 and responsible public procurement (challenges and opportunities of the Public Sector Contracts Act). In this first meeting, fundamental requirements of the Non-Financial Information Law have been highlighted. According to Germán Granda, General Director of Forética, “Transparency has a fundamental implication in the management and direction of publicly owned companies, in a context like the current one in which the mechanisms of accountability and good governance are essential elements demanded by all its stakeholders”.

In the words of Ana Gómez, Senior Manager and head of the Action Group, “the advances of the Group are proof of the relevance for public companies of assuming a leadership position in the development of sustainability, integrating the principles of CSR in their own activities and acting as a model of behavior in the environment that surrounds them”.

About the CSR Action Group in public companies

It is a collaborative business platform coordinated by Forética that aims to promote the exchange of knowledge among public companies participating in environmental, social and good governance aspects, make visible cases of business success, transfer relevant tools and trends internationally and contribute positively to the leadership of public companies in this field.

The members of the Group generate more than 255,000 direct jobs and their turnover represents 2.26% of GDP. In addition, they belong to more than 16 sectors of activity and have presence throughout Spain, including public companies with prominent activity in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Castilla y León, Community of Madrid, Comunidad Valenciana or Extremadura.

Forética, as a member of the Spanish Business Council for Sustainable Development, has collaboration agreements with different Ministries, such as the Ministry for Ecological Transition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security and the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, which contributes to the achievement of the objectives of this initiative.
