Valenciaport adheres to the Shenzhen Declaration to promote competitiveness, innovation and best working practices in ports

Valencia, October 10, 2019.- The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) participates in the China International Logistics and Supply Chain Fair, the main fair of the logistics and transport sector in Asia that is held until next October 12 in Shenzhen city. The PAV participates with its own stand in this event in which 1,800 exhibiting companies from the sector from more than 50 countries and around 130,000 visitors meet.

The Valenciaport delegation, headed by Mar Chao, commercial and business development director of the PAV, assists with the purpose of valuing its high connectivity and its privileged geostrategic situation for West-East traffic. During the meeting, meetings were held with relevant agents of the country’s logistics sector as the representative of the ICEX economic office for the Shenzhen area, with heads of the DoChan terminal of the Shenzhen port as well as with representatives of the Tianjin port.

Also, during his presence at the fair, Mar Chao has participated in the eighth edition of the Shenzhen World Port Chain Strategy Forum where he has presented the main advantages of connectivity of Valenciaport and his broad commitment to technological innovation in a panel in which they participated also representatives of the ports of Taranto (Italy), Zeebrugge (Belgium), Riga (Latvia), Indonesia and the Italian logistics platform Interporto Campano.

Shenzhen statement

Likewise, Valenciaport has taken advantage of its presence in China to sign its adherence to the Shenzhen Declaration, an agreement that aims to promote three lines of work. On the one hand, extend the function of port hub to improve the link between the port and its environment by increasing the competitiveness of industrial activity. Secondly, this statement aims to encourage innovation to increase international trade and, finally, to promote the exchange of best cooperation practices among members of the port community to create more business opportunities. The Shenzhen declaration has also been ratified by the ports of Shenzhen, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Gdansk, Antwerp, Riga, Halifax, Italian Ports Association, Genova, Taranto, Interporto Campano, Zeebrugge, Gdynia and Barcelona.

Traffic with China

At the end of 2018, China had moved 4.86 million tons through the Valenciaport docks. Regarding container traffic, in 2018 China channeled 540,363 full TEUs. The Chinese port enclosures with which the largest number of movements channels Valenciaport are Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Qingdao, Xiamen, Tianjin and Hong Kong.
