Valencia, May 29, 2026 – The transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy model has become one of the major challenges facing the port sector. The need to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and minimize the impact of polluting emissions is driving the development of new solutions based on alternative energy sources, energy efficiency, and innovation applied to port operations.

In this context, the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), together with the Valenciaport Foundation, will host a conference titled “Energy Self-Sufficiency in Ports” on June 5. The event will take place at the Clock Building as part of Environment Week and in conjunction with World Environment Day.

The event will focus on sustainability and energy innovation in the port sector and will serve as a forum for sharing experiences, initiatives, and solutions aimed at moving toward a more efficient and self-sufficient model. In this regard, the meeting will explore various alternatives to the traditional use of fossil fuels, as well as their role in reducing pollutant emissions and greenhouse gases.

The “Energy Self-Sufficiency in Ports” program will begin with a technical session, which will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This will be followed by a light reception from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., and then, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., a boat tour of Valencia Bay, sponsored by Mundo Marino.

To complement this event, from May 29 through June 5, the Clock Building will host an exhibition showcasing the main environmental initiatives and projects of the Port Authority of Valencia and the companies within the port community. This exhibition will give the public and the port community a closer look at some of the initiatives currently underway to move toward more sustainable operations.

Environmental Progress at the Port

This Environment Week is part of the environmental commitment of Valenciaport and the companies in the port area, which are working together to promote measures that help improve efficiency, reduce consumption, and move toward a more environmentally friendly business model. One example of this work is the Ecoport II project, launched by the APV, in which participating companies have spent the past year working toward goals related to reducing fuel, water, and electricity consumption. These efforts have also been combined with the promotion of alternative energy sources through the installation of solar panels, the use of photovoltaic energy, and the use of vegetable oils as alternative fuels, among other initiatives.
