This increase of 7 million euros will be allocated to the construction of the necessary safety facilities in the 7 sidings of the road.

In total, the VCT has planned to invest EUR 53,6 million in improving the Valencia-Zaragoza railway line and 31 million euros more in rail access to the port of Sagunto

From July 9 to October 5, the Valencia-Teruel-Zaragoza line will remain cut by the start of the siding improvement works.

Valencia, June 20, 2019.- The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has increased from 13,6 million euros to 20,6 million euros the economic contribution that will destine for the progress of 7 rest areas of trains in the line Valencia-Sagunto-Teruel-Zaragoza, which they will extend to be able to receive trains of up to 750 meters long.
This increase in the contribution, which will materialize through an addendum to the agreement signed with Adif will be destined for the construction of the necessary facilities of safety in each of the rest areas. This way he has promised to be in the meeting of follow-up of the works of the celebrated line this morning in Teruel and to which there has attended the assistant general director of the PAV, Manuel Guerra.

During the meeting, it has been announced that between July 9 and October 5, shipping services are scheduled to be interrupted. During this period Adif will undertake actions at a set of points on the line for the treatment of embankments and the consequent elimination of temporary speed limitations, the construction of 750 m section roads, the execution of a new underpass in Teruel and the renovation of the road superstructure.

In total, the PAV has planned to invest 53.6 million euros in the improvement of the Valencia-Zaragoza railway line and 31 million euros more in the construction of rail access to the port of Sagunto (20 million of the PAV’s own funds and 11 that Adif will contribute through Feder funds). At present, the PAV has already signed an agreement with Adif to destine 13,6 million euros for the improvement of 7 sidings on the railway track with Teruel, with aptitude to attend to trains of up to 750 meters long, and to which 7 million euros will be added compromised today. Also, the PAV it intends to destin another 33 million euros for progress performances in this railroad line, which are still hanging of recording.

Director Plan of Modernization and Maintenance

These performances are framed in the investments plan compromised to assure the competitiveness of the line Saragossa-Teruel-Sagunto like strategic axis of the Corridor Cantabrico – Mediterranean Corridor, which inclusion in the European Mediterranean Corridor was approved in last April.

This Plan Director, with a time horizon of execution until 2022/2023 and an initial investment of aggregate projected of 386.6 million euros, takes as a target to improve of significant form the state of the current infrastructure to keep on promoting this stretch of the Cantabrico – Mediterranean Corridor, especially for the goods traffic.

In this sense, the Plan is oriented at facilitating railroads connections and with logistics centers in this strategic railway axis, of great importance when running through territories that represent 21% of the State’s GDP.

Until now, there have been realized or are in execution works awarded by global value of more than 64 million euros (VAT included) to develop actions to improve the infrastructure and the capacity performance of the line, such as the abolition of 8 temporal limitations of speed, the installation of the system train-to-ground, the renewal of 11 structures for the increase in the carrying capacity 22.5 tonnes per axle, or the adaptation of stations to the circulation of goods trains of 750 meters. Also, there have been awarded contracts of supply of materials for the works execution by joint amount for 30,8 million euros (VAT included).

Through the actions executed so far (suppression of 8 temporary limitations of speed and implantation of the system train ground, fundamentally), the availability of the infrastructure has increased on having allowed circulations 24 hours and there have diminished the times of trip of the order of 3 hours for the goods trafics, increasing the ruts up to almost 30 weekly trains, and of 23 minutes for the travelers’ services. Also, there has been homogenized the maximum load of the circulations of goods, improving its competitiveness, since the increase of the capacity amble allows a train to transport 12.5 more% of load.

On the other hand, Adif works on the future electrification of the line, which will involve an investment of approximately 200 million euros (VAT included). Thus, are in the process of drafting the projects of overhead contact line (catenary) in all the route of the line, as well as those relating to substations and autotransformation centers partners, remote control of energy and the high voltage line in the tier Teruel-Zaragoza. Also, soon they will bid the works of substations and associate centers of autotransformation, remote control of energy and line of high tension in the areas of Cariñena and Villafranca.

Also, there is in hiring phase the writing of the projects of enlargement of the gauge in tunnels and top steps of the line, a performance necessary for the electrification of the infrastructure.

Finally, the project for the implementation of the Automatic Blocking is drafted throughout the line, whose implementation will mean a significant improvement in traffic management by providing greater reliability. The installation of this system is valued at about 31.5 million euros (VAT included).

As soon as the whole Governing Plan was completed, the line will have major capacity; the maximum circulation speed will increase and, consequently, the trip times will diminish of substantial form, both for the travelers and for the goods; it will improve the competitiveness of the services of load; electrical trains will be able to join; there will be offered better parameters of reliability and comfort; the incidences probability will diminish; and, finally, the line will be entirely interoperable with the brokers the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean.
