The proposals of the companies that participated in the ideas competition were announced today.

To publicise the ideas, an exhibition has been opened to the public which citizens can visit at the Grao Social Centre.

The Mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto, accompanied by the Deputy Director General attached to the Presidency of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), Manuel Guerra, reported this morning that the competition for ideas for the ‘Tinglados’ of the port of Gandia has been completed. The proposal that received the highest score was ‘Camins de la mar’, followed by ‘Forat’ and ‘Gandia en Pie! The project that received the highest score, which was presented by Peñin Arquitectos SLP, contemplates an in-depth work on the back of the sheds to integrate this area into the Grau without there being a physical barrier, while opening to the sea and connecting the north and south quays.

As Guerra explained, “today we are taking another step forward to give future uses to the non-commercial land of the port of Gandia. This proposal is the result of the good relations that the Port Authority has with the Gandia City Council and which has culminated in initiatives such as the north quay” and he informed that the winning project does not have to be precisely “Camins de la mar”, as “what we are looking for is to have many ideas that we can apply to the final project to be agreed with the city council”.

Regarding the competition, the deputy director general attached to the Presidency of the PAV, stressed the idea that the initiative will enhance the value of this area of the port and explained that all the projects had to include a public pedestrian walkway to connect the two sides of the port, integrating the area around the church of Sant Nicolau.

Guerra explained that the three projects are valued at between 2.7 and 3.9 million euros and that the PAV has already earmarked 2 million euros for this action.

For his part, the mayor thanked the PAV for its involvement in this commitment which was made last term between the previous mayoress, Diana Morant, and the president of Valenciaport, Aurelio Martínez. “We want to have the best projects and we will take proposals from all the proposals to give the Grau and the port the best alternative for its revitalisation” “Today is the beginning of the future of the sheds, so that the citizens can enjoy them and so that we generate opportunities for the university, the Guild and the economy”.

Prieto recalled that “we will complete this project with the Tourist Sustainability funds, which contemplate the regeneration of the area and the surroundings of Sant Nicolau, on the way to being declared BIC, as well as a better Grau-Platja articulation and greater accessibility from this area to the sea with an investment of 3.5 million euros”.
