From 27th February to 1st March, Lisbon is hosting the 10th World Ocean Summit; the annual event organised by The Economist with a wide representation from the business world, politics, civil society and the academic world.

The head of Environmental Policies at Valenciaport, Raúl Cascajo, will explain the Port of Valencia’s sustainability projects in a panel on decarbonisation

Valenciaport will participate in the 10th World Ocean Summit, a global event that will bring together the broadest representation of the ocean community, from business and finance to governments, national and international policy makers, civil society and academia.

This year, the summit will focus on the biggest challenges facing the ocean: climate change, biodiversity loss and marine pollution. Over the course of the three days, experts from the political, business, scientific, financial and NGO spheres will take part. The debates will focus on the marine industry, maritime transport, fishing, aquaculture, energy and tourism.

The head of Environmental Policies at Valenciaport, Raúl Cascajo, will participate in a panel on decarbonisation in maritime transport together with the managing director of Hoegh Autoliners, Andreas Enger; the director of Logistics and Sustainability at IKEA, Elisabeth Munck af Rosenschöld; and the vice-president of Ocean Network Express, Toshikazu Shiomi.

Raúl Cascajo explained that “Valenciaport’s participation in this forum is a recognition of the work we have been doing for many years in favour of sustainable growth and decarbonisation of the ports. At Valenciaport we understand that there are ways of making economic and social growth compatible with decarbonisation initiatives, and that is why in this forum we will talk about these initiatives and how we have managed to involve the entire port community in them through specific projects”.

The event, which is organised by The Economist, will be held in Lisbon (Portugal) between 27 February and 1 March. This year’s programme will kick off with sessions focusing on ‘blue finance’ and ‘ocean science and data’. The second day will address ‘Cities and the Ocean’ and the third day will launch the ‘Investment Hub’, where experts will address the challenges of innovation in shipping, aquaculture, wave and tidal power and plastic reduction.
