València, May 30th, 2022.- The port community of the Port of Valencia is preparing an intense week of activities for World Environment Day. An exhibition, workshops for schoolchildren and an information day on the use of renewable energies are some of the actions that Valenciaport has prepared to highlight the actions that the port and logistics sector are carrying out in terms of sustainability.

Thus, from 4 to 12 June, the Clock Building of the Port of Valencia will once again open its doors to all the residents and tourists of Valencia to host the free exhibition ‘One single land’. The exhibition, which can be visited between 11.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m., shows the actions that the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) and the companies of the port community are carrying out to fight against climate change and decarbonisation. The maritime sector is making a firm commitment to sustainability, and in the case of the València port community, to the common goal of Valenciaport 2030, zero emissions.

This exhibition explains the actions being carried out by the PAV, the Valenciaport Foundation, companies and institutions such as Amarradores Valencia, APM Terminals, Aportem, Baleària, Boluda, Centro Portuario de Empleo, CSP Spain, Docks Logistic, Romeu and Fertiberia. Also collaborating are Galp, Torres Group, Infoport, InterSagunto Terminals, MSC Terminal Valencia, Valencia Terminal Europa, Velas Lluch, VMG Refit and Repair, Tepsa, Seroil and Vareser.

Within the framework of ‘One Earth’, a free creative recycling workshop will be held for schoolchildren based on making masks from recycled materials, aimed at pupils aged 6 and over, with the aim of stimulating the imagination, raising awareness of the environment and having fun as a team. The workshops will be held in the Clock Building between 11.30 and 13.30.

Renewable energies in the Ports

On Monday 6th June, the conference “Renewable Energies in Ports” will take place in the Clock Building, where national and international experts will discuss the commitment of the port sector to green energies and projects such as the electrification of docks, the installation of photovoltaic plants or wind turbines. The conference will be opened by Federico Torres Monfort, director of Ecological Transition of the PAV and Empar Martínez, regional secretary for Sustainable Economy of the Generalitat Valenciana, and Raúl Cascajo, head of Environmental Policies of the PAV.

A representative of the European Association of European Ports will also discuss the Fit for 55 European regulations, and the actions being carried out in the field of renewable energies by Puertos del Estado, Valenciaport, the Port of A Coruña and the Port of Hamburg will be explained. Representatives from companies such as Acciona, the Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía (ITE) and the Solar Cells Lab National Institute for Solar Energy (INES) will talk about technologies applicable to renewable energies.
