- Valenciaport participates in the 63rd edition of the General Assembly of the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports – MedCruise Assembly – with a presentation of its decentralised value proposition aimed at a family and business audience
València, 16 October 2023.- Valenciaport participated from 10 to 13 October in the 63rd edition of the General Assembly of the Mediterranean Cruise Ports Association – MedCruise Assembly – held in the Port of Burgas (Bulgaria). At the meeting, the heads of the Mediterranean ports and shipping companies debated the future of the sector and different initiatives to implement improvements in the promotion of sustainable and accessible cruise tourism.
Francesca Antonelli, head of Cruises and Marketing of the Port Authority of València (PAV) and Senior Vice-President of MedCruise, has attended different meetings with representatives of international shipping companies with the aim of promoting the Port of Valencia as a sustainable and accessible cruise enclave aimed at a family audience, “but also luxury or business, sectors far removed from the agglomerations”.
Antonelli also presented the tourist offer of the Valencian precinct, highlighting aspects such as the inclusion of a proposal that includes visits – in addition to the city of València – to a wide variety of municipalities near the Cap i Casal with a rich historical heritage and natural landscapes. This offer is articulated through a plan designed together with the Diputación de València that includes safe, sustainable and attractive excursions in the surroundings of the province of Valencia.
In parallel, the head of Cruise and Marketig of Valenciaport, has participated in the Cruises & Port Cities working group in which several ports associated with Medcruise and the World Network of Port Cities (AIVP) meet to share experiences on the necessary collaboration between ports and destinations in terms of cruises. The working conclusions of this group will be published next year.
The Valenciaport Foundation – which is also a member of the Assembly – participated in the panel focused on the development of OPS (Onshore Power Supply) solutions, a system which allows ships docked in port to connect to the electricity grid. Carolina Navarro, the Foundation’s Director of Cruises and Mobility moderated the panel. The 63rd General Assembly of MedCruise was attended by more than a hundred representatives of Mediterranean ports, together with companies from the sector and 15 cruise lines. The different sessions and panels debated current issues such as investment needs, environmental initiatives and geopolitical risks, among others.
