Exports through this site have increased by 37.62% up to the month of March.

Gandia, April the 19th 2018. – The port of Gandia closed the first quarter of the year with 110,732 tonnes, a up 16.75% over the same period of the previous year. This growth is due to the good behavior of foreign trade that advanced a 15.84%, mainly, by exports. In response to data from the statistical bulletin of the Port Authority of Valencia, at the end of March, the site’s exports have increased by 37.62% while imports have risen by 0.80%.

Conventional general cargo registered an increase of 15.86% with a total traffic of 109,378 tonnes. This heading includes goods such as paper and pulp which, with 47,000 tonnes, grows by 6.37%; the chemical products that, with 31,000 tonnes, advance 10.25%; and the wood and cork that, with 26,000 tonnes, amount to 45.17%.

Valenciaport closed the first quarter of the year with container traffic of 1,183,187 TEU, a figure that represents an increase of 8.13% compared to the same period of the previous year. In terms of foreign trade, full containers have advanced by 3.95% during the first quarter of the year, mainly due to good records of imports, which increased by 13% and traffic, which increased by 4.51% . On the other hand, full containers exports decreased by 3.88% and empty containers increased by 25.05%. Regarding the monthly data, in March Valenciaport handled 410,612 TEU, a 3.40% more than during the same month of 2017.

Regarding total traffic, in the accumulated until the month of March, Valenciaport has channeled 17,513,425 tonnes, a 0.90% more than in the same period of 2017. The foreign trade of general cargo registered an increase of 4.10 % up to 5.79 million tonnes. In particular, imports increased by 14.22%, with a total of 2.31 million tonnes due to the good behavior of traffic with countries such as China, with 492,000 tonnes (+ 9.49%); Italy, with 341,000 tonnes (+ 25.28%); France, with 193,000 tonnes (+ 1.25%), Turkey, with 169,000 tonnes (+ 35.49%); and the United States, with 142,000 tonnes (+ 7.37%). On the other hand, exports fell by 1.70% to a total of 3.47 million tonnes. In this area, we can highlight the evolution of countries such as Italy, which was exported 534,000 tonnes through Valenciaport (+ 28.53%); and the United States, to which 297,000 tonnes were exported (+ 21.88%). At the end of the first quarter, global traffic grew by 1.61%.

Traffic by goods 

During the first three months of the year, conventional general cargo grew by 13.85%, with a total traffic of 3,170,892 tonnes. This advance is due to good records obtained by goods such as steel products, which grow by 15.53% to 691,000 tonnes; and automobiles and pieces, which increased by 22.43% to 450,000 tonnes. If we analyze these data by units, the ports of Valencia and Sagunto have moved 218,688 automobiles, up 5.55%. Likewise, the ro-ro traffic has increased 14.97% to 2,481,105 tonnes.

The containerized general cargo closed the first quarter of the year with a growth of 1.22% to 13,169,229 tonnes. In this section, goods traffic such as construction materials stand out, with a movement of 1.21 million tonnes, descend 4.90%; other goods that, with a movement of 568,000 tonnes, increased by 7.63%; and the chemical products that, with a movement of 478,000 tonnes, grew by 3.13%.

As for solid bulks, at the end of March, they advance 15.87% to a total of 539,780 tonnes. This increase is due to the behavior of goods such as cereals and flours, which, with 314,000 tonnes, increase by 60.74%. On the other hand, the liquid bulks remain in negative figures, decreasing 43.12%. In total, 585,180 tonnes were handled during the first quarter of the year. This decline is mainly explained by the results of natural gas which, with 33,000 tonnes, decreased by 94.96%.

Passenger traffic 

Taking into account the data of the March statistical bulletin, during the first quarter the port of Valencia received a total of 141,726 passengers who have used the site for their maritime movements, which represents an increase of 10.53%. This progress is due to the good evolution of regular line traffic that grew by 14.83% to reach 122,221 passengers. On the contrary, cruise traffic drops by 10.46% to 19,505 passengers.

Traffic by countries and geographical areas 

The five countries shipping with the highest volume of goods channeled through Valenciaport during the first quarter of the year have been: Spain, with 2.09 million tonnes and an advance of 5.18%; China, with 1.57 million tonnes and a decrease of 4.85%; United States, with 1.45 million tonnes and an increase of 28.86%; Italy, with 1.37 million tonnes and an increase of 21.38%; and Turkey, with 908,000 tonnes and a growth of 1.09%. By geographical areas, the Mediterranean and Black Sea areas stand out, with 4.93 million tonnes and an increase of 9.63%; and that of the Far East, with 2.33 million tonnes and a decrease of 6.09%.
