More than 200 cartoons, advertising posters, audiovisuals and publications in several languages will give an account of the international projection of Quino’s work to be held in the Clock Building.

Valenciaport strengthens its cultural commitment to the citizens with its traditional exhibition of cartoonists to end and welcome the new year.

In previous editions, the Clock Building has hosted exhibitions by Peridis, Forges and Ortifus.

The Port of València will say goodbye the year with the humour of Mafalda. The iconic character created by the cartoonist and cartoonist Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón, known under the pseudonym of Quino, will be the last artist to be housed in the Clock Building of the Port of Valencia this year and will welcome 2022.

The exhibition will look at Quino’s career through more than 200 cartoons, advertising posters, audiovisuals or publications in several languages that will give an account of the international projection of the work of the Argentinean artist Quino. Together with Mafalda and her family, and the company of her friends Felipe, Manolito and Susanita, visitors to this free exhibition will be able to enjoy one of the world icons of graphic humour and his non-conformist and restless vision of society in the cartoons produced between 1964 and 1973.

The exhibition, organised by the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), in collaboration with the Quevedo Institute of the Arts of Humour of the University of Alcalá de Henares, and commissioned by Ester Medán and Juan García, will introduce the citizens and tourists of Valencia to the personality and extensive work of Mafalda’s father. The event will reflect Quino’s most personal dimension through personal photographs and interviews, as well as his production before and after Mafalda. The exhibition will include a space dedicated to activities and workshops for children so that they can interact with the characters of the Argentinian cartoonist.

Cartoonists at the Casal del Port

Thus, with the exhibition of Quino, the Clock Building is once again transformed into a point of reflection, enlivening the critical spirit and reflecting the concerns of the citizens through, this time, a child, strengthening the port-city link that the PAV is committed to and positioning itself as one of the points of reference for cultural activity in Valencia.

In recent years, this iconic place has developed a wide range of exhibitions, mainly on themes related to port activity, which have attracted many visitors. Over the last few years, the “Casal del Port” has paid tribute to three other leading figures in Spanish graphic humour, with exhibitions by Peridis, Forges and Ortifus, enjoyed by 7,000, 12,000 and 10,500 visitors, respectively. Some of these exhibitions have also been transferred to Sagunto and Gandia after passing through Valencia as part of the PAV’s commitment to culture and port activity for the public.
