• The main objective of this collaborative platform is to promote the decarbonization of the maritime-port sector in Spain
  • The governing body of this association will be formed by representatives of Baleària, Autoridad Portuaria de València, Iberdrola, Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía, Ghenova, Grupo Junquera Marítima and Fundación Valenciaport

Last week the Net-Zero MAR Alliance, after almost two years of intense work, celebrated its act of constitution as an association.

This collaborative platform, which was born at the end of 2021 thanks to the impulse of Iberdrola, has as its main objective to promote the decarbonization of the maritime-port sector in Spain, making itself available to all agents, companies and institutions that want to join efforts to reduce emissions from ports and maritime transport.

The Board of Directors of this association, which has been elected by all the members of the Net-Zero MAR Alliance, will be formed by Javier Cervera Alonso (Baleària) as president; by Federico Torres Monfort (Port Authority of Valencia), as vice-president; Eva Pérez García (Valenciaport Foundation), who will be the Secretary of the association; and the members Sergio Platón Martínez (Iberdrola), Marta García Pellicer (Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía – ITE), María Merino Flores (Ghenova) and Pablo Campos-Ansó Fernández (Junquera Marítima Group).

The Net-Zero MAR Alliance aims to be the reference platform for the maritime and port sector in the field of decarbonization. To this end, it will establish a continuous dialogue and coordinated action among all stakeholders in the sector, as well as with official bodies, provide technical support to the members of the Alliance and carry out communication, training and study activities to facilitate the achievement of the proposed goals.

It should be noted that the members of the Net-Zero MAR Alliance launched during 2022 and the first half of 2023 four working tables in which they have discussed: electricity supply to ships from port, the roadmap for the decarbonization of the maritime and port sector; decarbonization of ships in navigation, and renewable energies in ports. The implementation of the working table on the decarbonization of terminal machinery is pending for 2024. All these roundtables are guided by the ultimate goal of exploring possible opportunities and solutions for decarbonization of maritime transport and port infrastructures.

The Net-Zero MAR Alliance, whose secretariat is managed by the Valenciaport Foundation, is currently made up of the following entities: ABB, Abervian, Arosa I+D, Autoridad Portuaria de Alicante, Autoridad Portuaria de València, Baleària, Bound4blue, Bureau Veritas, Centro de Investigación en Tecnología, Energía y Sostenibilidad de la Universidad de Huelva (CITES), Danfoss, Endurance Motive S.A., FRS, Fundación Valenciaport, General Electric, Ghenova, Global Factor, Grupo Junquera Marítima, Grupo Gimeno, Grupo Consulmar, Iberdrola, Ingeteam, Insteimed, Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía (ITE), Instituto Tecnológico de Galicia (ITG), Man Energy Solutions, MFS Energy, MSCTV Terminal Valencia, Naturgy, Navantia S.A., Ormazabal – A Velatia Company, Port Castelló, Puerto Banús, PYMAR, RINA, Seaplace, Siemens, Suardíaz Shipping Lines, Tec Container, Tecnalia, Terasaki, Tubacex Group, Universitat Politécnica de València and Vertis.
