València, May 3rd, 2022.- The cruise ship Wonder of the Seas of the Royal Caribbean shipping company has made its first call at the Port of Valencia with 4,000 passengers on board, most of them of American origin. The head of Commercial and Business Development of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), Rafael Romero, was in charge of handing over the traditional socarrat – the Valencian terracotta tile designed with maritime motifs that Valenciaport gives to the ships that dock for the first time at its facilities – to the captain of the cruise ship, Hernik Loy.

The Wonder of the Seas made its maiden voyage in March, departing from Florida in the United States to make its first appearance on the European continent.  The 236,857-tonne, 362-metre-long, 64-metre-wide cruise ship features energy-saving systems and tools to advance sustainability. The Wonder of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world with a maximum capacity for 6,988 passengers, who will be able to enjoy a unique leisure offer such as the highest slide at sea, christened The Ultimate Abyss, or a ten-metre high zip line. The crew consists of 2,300 people and the ship has 2,867 cabins.

Valencia has positioned itself as a very attractive destination for the cruise industry, a tourist that year after year grows in visitors and interest in discovering the city and its surroundings. Valenciaport has promoted last week at the Seatrade Global Cruise Fair in Miami, the most important event in the sector, the offer of the Cap i Casal and its surroundings. Valencia is a fashionable destination that is committed to a diversified offer, designed to meet the needs of cruise passengers and away from the large crowds.
