Of the 17.2 million TEUs channeled by the Spanish port system in 2018, a 30.12% passed through the facilities of Valenciaport.

The port closed the year with a historical record in container and automobile traffic.

València, February the 14th 2019.- One of every three containers that load and unload in the 46 ports of general interest of Spain passes through the terminals of Valenciaport. Thus, it is clear from the closing data for fiscal year 2018 compiled by ‘Puertos del Estado’. Specifically, in 2018, Spanish ports handled 17.2 million TEUs (20-foot containers). Of them, 5.18 million were managed by Valenciaport, which represents 30.12% of the total of this type of traffic.

In recent decades, container traffic has consolidated as the main mode of maritime transport of general cargo. In fact, of the 191.3 million general cargo handled by the Spanish port system in 2018, 71.5% was handled in containers of 20 and 40 feet.

The figures registered by the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) confirm the good evolution of container and automobile traffic in the areas it manages in 2018. In particular, the PAV has closed the year 2018 with historical records in both traffics. According to the data of the statistical bulletin of the PAV, during this exercise the terminals of Valenciaport manipulated 5,182,665 TEU, figures that represent an increase of the 7.25% with respect to 2017 and they situate the evolution of the enclosure in the average of the Spanish port system. This data confirms the historical record reached by Valenciaport, the first port in Spain and the Mediterranean to obtain the milestone of 5 million containers.

As regards car traffic, in 2018 Valenciaport was established as the leading site of the Spanish port system in this type of traffic with a total movement of 820,221 units and a growth of 3.18%.

Regarding total traffic, Valenciaport closed the year with a total of 76,620,440 tons channeled, 4.16% more than in 2017. Except for liquid bulk, the rest of merchandise maintained a positive evolution highlighting, especially, the conventional general cargo that, with 14.09 million tons, advances 19.49%. Likewise, solid bulks have grown by 11.64% in 2018% to exceed 2.5 million tons. On the contrary, liquid bulks have maintained the downward trend, with a movement of 1.91 million tons and a drop of 40.39%.
