Valencia, 29th June 2023 – One of Valenciaport’s main strategic projects in the short term is progressing steadily and surely: the development and implementation of the logistics-intermodal platform of Alcázar de San Juan. With this objective in mind, the mayoress of Alcázar de San Juan, Rosa Melchor; the Minister of Development of the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, Nacho Hernando; the director general of the PAV, Francesc Sánchez; together with Pilar Agramunt and Fátima Zayed – representing Valencia Plataforma Intermodal (VPI) -; Rubén Sobrino of the Government of La Mancha, and various members of their work teams, held a working meeting.

At this meeting, the institutional model for the constitution of the company promoting the new terminal was agreed upon and the go-ahead was given for the start of the procedures for the direct awarding of the preliminary project for the terminal. Likewise, with the aim of achieving the maximum profitability of this Dry Port, the development company has opted to build a 750-metre platform – the maximum possible length. In this sense, the dimensions of the loading and unloading infrastructure make it one of the most competitive platforms on a national level because it will have the capacity to handle and manage the longest trains.

At the meeting, it was also agreed that the private sector would participate in the development of the platform with around 30% of the capital in order to respond to the interest and demand of the private sector in Castilla-La Mancha to invest in this infrastructure. For Valenciaport, the implementation of this infrastructure is key for companies in the area of influence of Valencia to have greater accessibility to international markets in a more competitive and environmentally friendly way thanks to the railway. Moreover, it considers its development strategic due to its alignment with the decarbonisation strategy and its contribution to the economic development of areas such as Castilla-La Mancha. On the other hand, for the Government of La Mancha it represents a guarantee of access for the companies of this autonomous region to world markets thanks to the direct connection with the docks of Valenciaport, the port with the best connectivity in the Mediterranean.
