The Clock Building of the Port of València consolidates its position as a socio-cultural reference point of the Cap i Casal

València, February 1st, 2022.- A total of 25,630 people has visited the Clock Building to see the exhibition ‘Quino. Mafalda and much more’. A great success thanks to the great reception it has had among the public of the city and the hundreds of tourists who have visited the emblematic building of the Port of Valencia since 17 December. Visitors who have closed the year 2021 and started this 2022 with the graphic humour of Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón, better known as Quino, through his main character: Mafalda. An intelligent, witty, tender humour of unbeatable sharpness, which, as the people who have visited the exhibition at the Port of Valencia have been able to see, is still completely up to date, even though his cartoons are over 50 years old.

Groups of teenagers, families, couples, senior citizens, children and tourists of different nationalities have passed through the Clock Building. The exhibition has allowed those who already knew Mafalda to rediscover her and remember their youth, and those who did not, to discover the universe of this world icon. The exhibition was organised by the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), in collaboration with the Quevedo Institute of Humour, for the Valencian public. In fact, the harmony between the residents of Valencia and the Valenciaport exhibition has been total and proof of this is the great reception it has received. The public has highlighted the quality, the design, the material on display and the activities that have accompanied this exhibition, which has been recognised by visitors through their messages on social networks.

#MiMafalda competition

In fact, the contest organised by Valenciaport through Instagram has had the participation of more than 200 people who have uploaded hundreds of photographs with the hashtags #MiMafalda and/or #LaMeuaMafalda. Images of all kinds: gestures in front of a cartoon, group laughter, simulated dialogues with Mafalda, funny poses or simply close-ups of a cartoon that for whatever reason has caught the visitor’s attention. The PAV has rewarded the people whose photographs have registered the most “likes” with the Todo Mafalda book.

Another highlight of ‘Quino. Mafalda and much more’ is that there was a space for children to take part in workshops and a section in Braille for the blind and visually impaired. In addition, visitors could download an audio guide to their mobile phones via QR codes, explaining details of Quino’s life, his characters and his creative process.

The Humour Building

The Clock Building has established itself as the building of wit and culture that bids farewell to the year and welcomes the new one with the best graphic humour. Now is the time for Quino, but over the last few years, Valenciaport has held various exhibitions related to port activity and humour, which have attracted many visitors. With this exhibition, the father of Mafalda joins three Spanish references in this field: Forges, Ortifus and Peridis, who have made the thousands of residents of Valencia and tourists who have visited their exhibitions in the ‘Casal del Port’ laugh and reflect.
