The meeting will analyse the operational measures in the Port of Valencia following the re-establishment of navigation in the Suez Canal

València, March 30th, 2021.- The “Marca de Garantía” of the Port of Valencia will address, at its meeting tomorrow, the Contingency Plan discussed at the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) to coordinate the traffic on the quays of the Port of Valencia after the unblocking of the Suez Canal.

The meeting will analyse the measures to be adopted over the next few days for the loading and unloading operations and the transfer of containers that will also arrive at the Port of Valencia after the reestablishment of navigation in the Suez Canal. More than 150 companies and institutions are represented in the “Marca de Garantía”, including customs agents, forwarding agents, consignees, container depots, mooring agents, stevedores, pilots, tugboats, logistics operators, carriers, stevedoring companies and suppliers, among others.

According to PAV estimates, the increase in traffic is expected to be between 20,000 and 25,000 TEUs (standard 20-foot containers), a figure corresponding to the traffic retained on one side and on the other from Suez, which has not been able to sail during the six days that the Canal has been blocked. This is an amount that will be added to the daily traffic handled in the port area (an average of 15,000 TEUs/day).

The Port Authority of Valencia expects the arrival and departure of this retained traffic to be spaced out over the 10 to 15 days following the coming weekend, which will enable the impact to be minimised. However, the capacity and professionalism of the Port of Valencia at peak times will enable the singularity caused by the Suez blockade to be dealt with. During the second half of the year 2020 – in response to the commercial boost after the hardest moments of the pandemic – Valenciaport recorded traffic in excess of half a million TEUs/month for several months, which gives it room for manoeuvre and experience to comfortably manage an increase in traffic such as that expected.

The “Marca de Garantía” is an innovative quality seal registered and internationally recognised as one of the pillars on which the commitment to quality is based, which both Valenciaport and the companies of its Port Community maintain with their clients, who have in it an effective instrument to guarantee the quality of their commercial transactions.
