- Valenciaport handled 2,819,602 TEUs during the first half of 2026, up 0.20% compared with the same period last year
- Full import containers reached 559,825 TEUs (+11.14%), while full export containers totaled 451,669 TEUs, down 0.84%
- Rail freight traffic increased by 19.51% in tonnage, while automobile traffic grew by 9.33% to 276,930 units
Valencia, 20 July 2026 – Import traffic continued to account for an increasing share of Valenciaport’s activity during the first half of the year. Between January and June, the terminals managed by the Valencia Port Authority (APV) handled 559,825 full containers, an increase of 11.14 per cent compared with the same period in 2025. Meanwhile, export containers totalled 451,669 units, representing a decrease of 0.84 per cent.
Overall, the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia handled 2,819,602 TEUs – standard 20-foot containers – during the first half of the year, representing a slight increase of 0.20 per cent compared with the previous year. In June alone, 502,095 TEUs were handled, 0.35 per cent more than in June 2025.
Around 40 million tonnes managed
In terms of weight, the APV handled 39,917,708 tonnes of goods during the first six months of 2026, 3.12 per cent less than in the same period of the previous financial year. Monthly traffic in June stood at 7,021,994 tonnes, representing a year-on-year decrease of 0.62 per cent.
Cargo handling, including both loading and unloading, continues to show positive performance overall, reaching 24,989,644 tonnes, an increase of 1.63%. Specifically, unloaded cargo rose by 6.43% to 12,763,943 tonnes, while loaded cargo declined by 2.94%, totaling 12,225,701 tonnes.
Rail and automobiles maintain their momentum
Rail traffic continues to be one of the best-performing indicators during the first half of the year. Goods transported by rail reached 1,957,136 tonnes, up 19.51%, while containers moved by rail totaled 144,803 TEUs, representing an increase of 16.78%.
Car traffic in the freight sector is also showing a positive trend. Between January and June, 276,930 vehicles were handled, 9.33 per cent more than in the same period of 2025. The Port of Sagunto stands out in particular, having handled 110,001 vehicles and recording a cumulative increase of 24.26 per cent.
Passenger numbers on scheduled services are rising
A total of 612,305 passengers used Valenciaport’s facilities during the first six months of the year, representing an overall decrease of 9.63%. This trend is mainly due to the decline in cruise traffic, which recorded 237,547 passengers, down 23.88%.
In contrast, regular ferry passengers increased by 2.53%, reaching 374,758. In June, total passenger traffic amounted to 156,116 passengers.
China leads Valenciaport’s foreign trade.
China remains Valenciaport’s leading trading partner, with 469,504 TEUs handled through June, representing an increase of 25.14%. It is followed by the United States, with 167,540 TEUs (-14.01%); Algeria, with 156,822 TEUs (-3.78%); Türkiye, with 97,833 TEUs (-24.95%); and Italy, with 53,083 TEUs (-19.96%). In terms of tonnage, trade with China exceeded 5.1 million tonnes, an increase of 26.33%. Italy recorded more than 3.1 million tonnes (-12.58%), while the United States handled nearly 3 million tonnes (-6.09%).
