The port of Sagunto ended 2016 with a total traffic of 6,568,440 tonnes, a figure that means an increase of 3.13% over the previous year.

Likewise, car traffic rose by 5.51% to a total of 193,168 vehicles handled and container traffic grew by 80.83% to 60,914 TEU.

Containerised general cargo went up by 82.82%, to a total of 552,053 tonnes in 2016. Meanwhile, conventional general cargo decreased by 2.22%, to 2,314,206 tonnes. This decline was mainly due to poorer steel product traffic which fell by 3.92% to 1.79 million tonnes; though cars and their parts increased by 5.66% to 349,000 tonnes.

Solid bulk, with 1,133,941 tonnes, decreased by 3.84% compared to the previous year. Natural and artificial fertilizers rose by 17.42% to 343,000 tonnes; cement and clinker went down by 46.76% to 296,000 tonnes; and construction materials increased by 2,181.02% to 234,000 tonnes.

Liquid bulk has reversed the annual trend and ended the year with a rise of 2.23% to a total of 2,552,205 tonnes. This growth was driven to the result of goods such as natural gas which increased by 2.82% to 2.30 million tonnes. Conversely, chemical products fell by 8.97% to 168,000 tonnes.
