València, 7th June 2023.- The president of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), Joan Calabuig, in his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Confederal Assembly of Coordinadora thanked the stevedoring professionals for their “professionalism and dedication to enable the growth of economic activity, and for having contributed to the ports being centres that generate wealth and welfare in their environments, as is the case of the Port of Valencia; a benchmark in connectivity, safety and eco-efficiency of which we Valencians are so proud”.
In València,” Calabuig stressed, “the Port Employment Centre is a benchmark for the incorporation of women in the sector, “82% of women stevedores in Spain work in the Port of Valencia”. But also, she added, “it is a benchmark for promoting the implementation of new operating systems, new technologies and machinery in port operations at the terminals, and in adapting to the changing needs of the logistics chain. Maritime-land transport and intermodality have renewed their role, and not only since the pandemic. The dockers are more visible than ever, which indicates that together with the ports, we share the commitment to assist people and companies to contribute to growth and welfare for the benefit of all”.
This is what the president of Valenciaport said at the opening ceremony of the Confederal Assembly 2023 of the Coordinadora Estatal de Trabajadores del Mar, which is being held in the auditorium of the Port Authority of Valencia under the slogan ‘Coordinadora, un compromiso de tod@s’. Calabuig thanked the Coordinadora for choosing València as the venue for this Assembly, which “is a source of pride for the Port and for our city” and highlighted “the great work of the trade union, based on dialogue and collaboration, as well as the importance of sea workers in the development and creation of wealth in a country”.
For the head of Valenciaport, “having a powerful and competitive logistics-port sector is undoubtedly the best recipe for our external competitiveness and its impact on trade flows is of the first magnitude. Moreover, the logistics industry is at a peak that requires professionals of all categories”.
During his speech, Calabuig highlighted the challenges faced by the group, such as continuous training to continue advancing in the face of new challenges; adapting to changes in the logistics sector; and the specialisation of professional teams.
