Around 769,864 t of fruits, vegetables and legumes flowed through the port of Valencia (Spain) in 2015. The throughput, which was in line with expectations, was up 6.46% over 2014. Some 92% of the tonnage was moved in containers, whilst the remainder was shipped as non-containerized general cargo.

Last year, the number of boxes stuffed with fruit and vegetables reached 50,655 teu, of which 33,230 were reefers, an increase of 9.09% over 2014. The top five target markets were Brazil, Algeria, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Canada, and the five main sources were the USA, Mexico, China, Chile and India.

In a bid to strengthen contacts with logistics operators throughout the world, Valencia’s port authority (APV), together with the Spanish ports of Sagunto and Gandia, are participating in the annual Fruit Logistica trade fair, which is being held in Berlin from 3 to 5 February 2016.

The port of Valencia provides, inter alia, good connectivity, a favourable geostrategic position, and a facility with 2,146 reefer plugs and cold stores, as well as a container inspection and clearance service that only requires around 45 minutes.
