• The deputy director general attached to the Presidency left his post this week
  • The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia has recognised his “great professional work” during the years that he has worked for the organisation

València, Juny 2sd, 2023.- The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) met this morning to address various issues relating to the activity of the three sites it manages. After this meeting, the president of Valenciaport, Joan Calabuig, wanted to recognise the work and congratulate Manuel Guerra, deputy director general assigned to the Presidency of Valenciaport until this week, for his career and “great professional work”.

This was announced by both the general director, Francesc Sánchez, and the president of the PAV, “we are going to inform him of this recognition, which has also been a unanimous decision of the Board. And also, we want him to know that we would like him to continue collaborating with us on specific issues whenever he wishes”.

His last day of activity coincided with the end of May, and he did so presiding, at 73 years of age, over the union voting tables held at the PAV.

Long career

Manuel Guerra is a graduate of the first promotion of Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (1973). Since 1989, Guerra has held various positions of responsibility in Valenciaport. Among them, he has been Director of Planning, Director of the Port of Sagunto, or Deputy Director General attached to the Presidency in its last stage.

Among his achievements, it is worth highlighting that his work has been essential in carrying out the work and studies that made it possible to obtain the favourable reports for the EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) for the ports of Sagunto, Gandía and Valencia. Another of his great successes has been his contribution to the design -more than 20 years ago- of the railway entrance to the Port of Sagunto. He was also instrumental in the launching of the Valenciaport Guarantee Brand.

Recently, in an interview with Diario del Puerto, Guerra referred to what he considers to be the Port of Valencia’s pending issues: the North Terminal and the North Access. Guerra declared that “politicisation hinders the execution of certain projects, as in the case of the North Terminal or the ZAL. The former president of the PAV, Fernando Huet, had already warned that one of the threats facing the ports at that time was precisely politicisation. We have explained, actively and passively, that the enlargement does not have a major impact on the beaches. We have studied, analysed and proved that this is the case… but there is no way”.
