The firm in charge of drawing up the report is sending an email to the companies linked to the activity of the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia, containing a link to the survey with the SurveyMonkey platform

The study is based on the financial years 2018, 2019 and 2020 to find out the current impact of the ports managed by the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV)

Valenciaport contributed 2,500 million euros to the Valencian economy, 2.39% of Gross Value Added and around 39,000 jobs, 2.09% of the total employment in the Valencia Region, according to the latest report presented in 2018

València, May 16th, 2022.- The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), through the Joint Venture awarded the contract for the preparation of the Economic Impact Study composed of the consulting firms Analistas Financieros Internacionales and Prometeia, has begun to contact the companies that operate with the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia to gather information and prepare the report on the impact of port activity on the generation of wealth and employment in the Valencian Community.

The firm in charge of the study is sending an e-mail to the companies in the port community requesting their collaboration to collect data with which to draw up the report. The e-mail contains a link to the SurveyMonkey platform for completing the survey online. The questionnaire consists of a first block with nine questions on economic-financial information relevant to business activity, and a second module with three questions aimed at finding out the level of satisfaction of the companies with the port enclosures.

Valenciaport is grateful for the collaboration of the companies participating in this study, the aim of which is to ascertain the relevance of the economic activity and employment of the port sector.

The work that AFI and Prometeia are already developing, will also incorporate an analysis of the traffic of goods and the economic projections of the three ports managed by the PAV. It will also include the study of passenger movements on regular and cruise lines for the Port of Valencia.

To know the current impact of the ports managed by the PAV, the operations of the port community for the financial years 2018, 2019 and 2020 will be taken as a basis. The last report of these characteristics was carried out with data from 2016, when Valenciaport managed 4.72 million TEUs (standard 20-foot container) and 71.2 million tonnes of goods moved, while in 2021, this figure was 5.6 million containers and 85 million tonnes of goods that were operated on the quays of the port precincts, in a year that was still marked by COVID-19.

A driving force and engine of the economy

According to data from the latest Economic Impact Study of Valenciaport presented in 2018 and prepared by the Department of Economics and Social Sciences of the Universitat Politècnica de València with data from 2016, Valenciaport contributed to the Valencian economy and its area of influence a gross added value of 2,500 million euros, 2.39% of the total GDP of the Comunitat Valenciana.

In terms of employment, companies related to Valenciaport generated 38,866 jobs, a figure that represented 2.09% of the total number of jobs in the Valencia Region in 2016. These figures show the importance of Valenciaport as a generator of employment and wealth in the surrounding area.

In this sense, the activity of the port facilities made it possible to distribute 1,243 million euros a year in salaries. More than 400 million of this income was generated by the initial effect of the Port, but more than double this amount (two out of every three salaries) originated from the direct, indirect and induced effects of Valenciaport. Overall, Valenciaport was the origin of 2.62% of the total wage bill in the Valencia Region. However, it created 2.09% of Valencian employment, which indicates that the salaries paid from Valenciaport’s activity are above the average for the Comunitat.

In terms of tax revenue, the study points out that the public coffers received 181 million euros in 2016 from the activities linked to Valenciaport.
