Aurelio Martínez: “To continue to be the leading port in the Mediterranean and to respond to the productive sectors, we have to advance in all the investment projects of Valenciaport”

Valenciaport approves a four-month extension to the deadline requested by TIL to adapt its preliminary terminal project to the modifications made by the APV (no an extension of 500 metres of the North dock and no dredging to -22 metres)

TIL is at no time rethinking the project in the port of Valencia

The President of the Valencia Port Authority, Aurelio Martínez, has thanked, on behalf of the port community, the Professional Union of Valencia (PUV) for the Professional Excellence Award 2020 in the category of Internationalisation which it has awarded to Valenciaport. “This award is a recognition by the professional associations of the province of Valencia of the work of Valenciaport as a reference point for logistics and commercial activity throughout the world, an activity carried out by the port community at the service of Valencian companies and society,” said Martínez at the press conference following the Board of Directors of Valenciaport.

The members of the jury  made up in this fifth edition by the Regional Minister of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility, Arcadi España, the regional director of Cadena SER in the Valencia Region, Bernardo Guzmán, the vice-president of the Association of Textile Businesses of the Region (Ateval) and the president of the Spanish Intertextile Council, Càndid Penalba, and the President of EDEM Business School, Hortensia Roig, for “their firm commitment to internationalisation through transport channels and large infrastructures has made the Port of Valencia the 4th port in Europe in terms of container traffic, as well as achieving the highest growth in traffic among the 30 leading ports in the world in 2019”.

In this sense, Martínez explained that “to continue to be a reference port hub in the coming years, and to be able to respond to the needs of the productive sectors, it is necessary to advance with all the strategic projects of Valenciaport. In the coming years, international trade will continue to grow, and if we want to continue to be the most important port in the Mediterranean and not lose traffic, we need to grow in capacity and services”.

“We are a port that is at the service of the Valencians. We are a leading port in goods management and we also want to be a leading port in terms of the environment”, added Martínez. Projects such as the new northern container terminal or the new passenger terminal are going to generate wealth and employment, and are going to be a reference in sustainability, respect for the environment and commitment to new technologies.

The 5th Professional Excellence Awards aim to recognise the scientific, technical, social, cultural and human work carried out by individuals or groups of individuals, companies, institutions and other entities in the professional community of the province of Valencia. Unión Profesional de Valencia is the association that brings together the professional associations in Valencia. It is currently made up of 41 Professional Associations in the province of Valencia and brings together more than 90,000 members from a wide range of disciplines in all sectors.

North Terminal

Also, the Board of Directors of Valenciaport has approved the extension requested by TIL of four months for the revision of the preliminary project of the North extension so that it can technically study the modifications made by the removal of the extension of the dyke and the dredging of the canal (not an extension of 500 metres of the North dyke and not dredging to -22 metres) carried out after studying the allegations made to the project. As explained by the General Director of the PAV, Francesc Sanchez, “the extension requested by TIL is exclusively for technical reasons. He has reiterated to us very clearly and without any doubt that of all the projects that they have in the world at the moment, in no case is the Port of Valencia project, which is one of the strategic projects for TIL, being reconsidered”.
