- The Port Authority of València (PAV) has put out to tender the work of doubling the track and the implementation of the third railway line between the Poniente and Levante docks in the Port of Valencia
- The project will allow the access of goods trains of 750 metres to the Levante Railway Terminal on double mixed track and the elimination of the single-track section that currently exists

València, 17 January 2023.- Valenciaport has published today on its website the technical and administrative specifications for the tender for the work of doubling the track and the implementation of the third railway line between the Poniente and Levante docks in the Port of València. The Port Authority of València (PAV) has put out to tender the execution of this infrastructure which, once it is up and running, will allow the access of 750-metre long freight trains to the Levante Railway Terminal on double mixed track and, furthermore, will mean the elimination of the single track section existing at present.
This extension of tracks improves APM’s accesses and will accommodate more trains inside the Port, facilitating the access of convoys to the future rail motorway and to Valencia Terminal Europa (VTE).
This work is part of Valenciaport’s railway strategy, a plan that promotes the use of the railway and which has led to an increase in train traffic in recent years, accounting for approximately 8% of the total amount of goods entering and leaving the Valencian docks. Likewise, the forthcoming entry into service of the international gauge in the Mediterranean Corridor makes it necessary to extend and adapt the existing railway infrastructures in order to adapt them to the new potential demands.
This project is financed with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The tender for this railway project has been put out to tender for an amount of 12,027,689.63 Euro (VAT included), with a completion period of 18 months and its main objectives are:
– To meet the levels of capacity, operability, connectivity and safety demanded by the expected traffic increases.
– To allow railway operation on Iberian and international gauge.
– To allow railway operation with electric traction.
– Favour environmental sustainability
The adaptation of the PAV railway network is being carried out in sections, progressively advancing from the connection with the ADIF network. This will allow the construction of each of the sections independently, minimising the impact on railway operations. In particular, the project works will allow access for goods trains of 750 m in length to the Levante Railway Terminal on double mixed 1668/1435 mm electrified track. This will mean an improvement in the railway operation of this section of the network. In addition, they eliminate the currently existing single-track section, which entails operational limitations that are not compatible with the planned traffic increases.
