The ships departed from Genoa for the marine pilgrimage to Galicia

València, July 1st, 2022.- The Port of Valencia has welcomed the Iacobus Maris fleet, the sailing ships taking part in the longest maritime Xacobean route in history, which departed from the port of Genoa bound for Galicia. The president of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV), Aurelio Martinez, has held a meeting with the honorary consul of Italy, Adriano Carbone to coordinate the presence of the fleet that will remain in the Port of Valencia until Sunday.

Also present at the meeting were the Naval Commander of Valencia, Alfredo Cordón, the frigate captain and commander of the Italian training ship Palinuro, Francisco Rima, the deputy director of the PAV, Néstor Martínez, and the head of Operations, Rubén Marín.

The Iacobus Maris Route commemorates the journey of the body of the Apostle St. James from the port of Jaffa (an ancient province of the Roman Empire located in Palestine) to Santiago de Compostela, crossing the Mare Nostrum from East to West and heading north to Galicia. It is currently the longest Xacobean maritime pilgrimage in history.

The fleet, moored in front of the Veles i Vents building, will open its doors to be visited free of charge by the public and learn about the work and life on board these jewels of the sea. In total there will be four days of activities until Sunday 3 July, when the fleet will sound the starting horn again to resume its journey to Seville.
