The tender has been awarded to the firm COMSA S.A.U. for a value of 5,523,650 euros.

The works will begin in the last quarter of this year and have a completion period of 12 months.

The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) takes a further step in the port-city integration which will allow the use of this area by the citizens.

A further step in the commitment of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) to the Sagunto town council and its neighbours in the port-city integration. Valenciaport has awarded COMSA. S.A.U. the work on the project “New promenade in the northern area of the Port of Sagunto” following a public tender in which five bids were submitted. The awarding of this work activates the construction of a promenade in the northern part of the port area of Sagunto which, giving continuity to the promenade of the municipality, will allow public use of this area and, in the future, public access to the Sierra Menera jetty. The work is scheduled to begin in the last quarter of this year and will take 12 months to complete.

The bid submitted by COMSA obtained the best score in the award criteria set out in the tender specifications. The amount awarded was 5,523,650 euros, including VAT. This project, in addition to the commitments made in the agreement signed by the PAV and Sagunto City Council, will be developed on the land occupied by the land part of the current jetty to create a new urban space that connects the end of the current Travesía del Mediterráneo with the start of the maritime section of the jetty.
This new promenade is conceived as a cultural, leisure and recreational centre for the citizens, so a series of activity areas have been created to enable the creation of museum areas, restaurants, children’s play areas, sports facilities, etc. In this line, one of the main ideas of the project is to enhance the value of the heritage and historical character of the area. To this end, the new promenade is conceived as a space that combines leisure with a museum approach to the pontoon and Sagunto’s own industrial heritage.

The project contemplates constructive solutions with several areas such as: Roundabout and junction with Travesía del Mediterráneo street and Paseo Marítimo; Access stairs and starting area of the promenade; Central part of the promenade and space for activities; Final area of the promenade and future link with the jetty; Interaction area with the beach; Bicycle lane area.

It should be remembered that the project for the remodelling of the northern area of the Port of Sagunto is being developed in two phases. On the one hand, work will be carried out on the land area which will connect with the promenade in the northern area, which is the work that has been awarded. On the other hand, the maritime part, which will require a simplified environmental procedure due to the waste treatment that will be generated, as it is in non-inland waters.

A space for citizens

In addition to the start of the construction of this new promenade, the PAV and Sagunto City Council agreed at the last advisory committee of the Port of Sagunto held in July on the bases that should define the competition of ideas for the port-city interaction project in the northern area of the Port of Sagunto, with the intention of launching the tender in September. Specifically, the uses and spatial scope to be included in the Technical Specifications have been established and defined.

Thus, the uses linked to the port-city interaction proposed in the Committee for this project are commercial activity such as restaurants, leisure, etc., excluding large shopping centres; the creation of playgrounds, spaces and elements for physical activity and sport and a cycle lane; fishing; cultural, leisure and sporting activities and events; or itinerant commercial events.

The competition will also contemplate the nautical-sports use that is compatible with the agitation characteristics of the North Quay and the maritime safety of the port; as well as commercial and complementary port uses, with the corresponding segregation and safety measures.
