Valenciaport moves the Peridis exhibition to the Mario Monreal cultural centre in Sagunto after its successful run at the Clock Building in the Port of Valencia.

Visitors will be able to enjoy until 28 May, free of charge, a journey through the professional career of the cartoonist.

This initiative highlights the commitment of the Port Authority of Valencia to bring Spanish culture closer to society and consolidates the link established between the city and the port.

The Mario Monreal cultural centre in Sagunto will be hosting from today the exhibition on José María Pérez, Peridis, organised by the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV). Vignetist, writer and social entrepreneur are four words that define the great cartoonist Peridis. He began his professional career more than 40 years ago in Diario SP and embraced fame in the newspaper El País, where his career has not ceased to reap achievements since his arrival. For this reason, Valenciaport has wanted to pay tribute to him by holding an exhibition in which more than 80 illustrations by the author can be seen.

The exhibition moves to the Mario Monreal cultural centre in Sagunto, one year after being held at the Clock Building in Valencia, where it attracted more than 6,500 visitors. The Mayor of Sagunto, Darío Moreno, the Councillor for Culture, Festivals and Popular Culture, María Asunción Moll of Sagunto City Council, the Deputy Director of the PAV, Néstor Martínez, the secretary of the Quevedo Institute of the Arts of Humour, Juan García and the exhibition curator Ester Medán, today inaugurated the exhibition, which can be visited free of charge until 28 May from 9:00 to 21:00 hours from Monday to Saturday. Once again, the PAV is committed to culture, making it available to the greatest number of Valencians and bringing the best graphic humour to the residents of Sagunto.

The exhibition is divided into several sections that cover Peridis’ career as a cartoonist, architect and social entrepreneur, and disseminator of culture. The exhibition is organised by the PAV in collaboration with the Quevedo Institute of the Arts of Humour of the Foundation of the University of Alcalá and the Sagunto City Council. The critical spirit, his concern about youth unemployment and politics are the hallmarks of his works, so visitors can see the political current affairs of recent years reflected through the eyes of Peridis.

Peridis’ work follows in the footsteps of Forges and is installed for two months in the city of Sagunto. Both have in common the comic and vindictive tone with which the PAV pays tribute to cartoonists and expands the cultural offer with various exhibitions throughout the year.
