• Sagunto residents and the thousands of tourists that the city receives during the summer can now enjoy the new promenade of the port of Sagunto, which will open today to the public
  • The space is conceived as a cultural center, leisure and recreational activity for citizens, so they have created a number of areas: museum, playground or sports, among others
  • The 5.5 million euros of the work have been contributed entirely by the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV). This is an example of the PAV’s commitment to Sagunto
  • The City Council, for its part, will assume the cleaning and maintenance tasks- The new infrastructure has four different accesses: a main one, one from the beach, one for cyclists and the one that goes into the accessible route, adapted to people with reduced mobility and blind people

València, 19 July 2024.- A new connecting space between the port and the city, a common area where the day-to-day activity that takes place on the docks of Sagunto can be interconnected with the local residents. This is the essence of the new seafront promenade in the port of Sagunto, which has been opened to the public today.

With this action, the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has given life to a new public area in the port-city interaction zone which gives continuity to the current Sagunto promenade and serves as a transition between port use and public use. And to see first-hand the uses of this new infrastructure, this morning Mar Chao, president of the PAV, and Darío Moreno, mayor of Sagunto, together with a large part of the municipal corporation, representatives of the public and prominent members of the port community of Sagunto, made the final visit of the work in the moments prior to its opening to the public.

The space is conceived as a cultural, leisure and recreational activity centre for the citizens, which is why a series of activity areas have been created to enable the creation of museum, children’s play, sports and leisure areas. In this line, one of the main ideas of the project is to enhance the heritage and historical character of the area. To this end, the new promenade has been designed as a space that combines leisure with a museum approach to the port and Sagunto’s own industrial heritage.

The cost of its construction, which was paid for entirely by the PAV, was 5,523,650 euros (VAT included). This project has been developed on the land occupied by the terrestrial part of the current jetty with the aim of creating a new public space that connects the end of the current Mediterranean Crossing with the start of the maritime section of the jetty.

For Mar Chao, president of the Port Authority of Valencia, “the promenade that is now open for the enjoyment of the citizens and the people of Saguntí fills us with great satisfaction. It is proof that Valenciaport is Sagunt. It is an enclave which is conceived as a meeting place between the citizens and their port”.

For his part, Darío Moreno considers that: “Today we are gaining a space for the citizens, but we are doing so with two other very important vectors. The first, a dignification of our industrial heritage, which in the end is our own history. We are talking about the promenade of the land jetty, and therefore the whole intervention has revolved around what it was, what it meant for our municipality and the very walls of this infrastructure tell that story which is essential for us”.

“And the second vector” – added the mayor – “is that, in addition, this investment has been made by creating a first class, high quality promenade, which will become an engine for attracting visitors and a place for citizens to enjoy. This new promenade will also help us to continue to position our city, but with this esteem, without forgetting where we come from and wanting to value all that we are”. The City Council will also be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the new public infrastructure.
