The Board of Directors of MedCruise, headed by its president, Figen Ayan, held a meeting this morning at the headquarters of the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV). The environmental and social strategy in the short, medium and long term of the cruise industry and its implementation in the destination cities has been the focus of the session.
The process of decarbonization of the port and ships, the importance of public-private collaboration in the field of decentralization of tourism and the commitment to inclusion have been the main threads of the meeting. In this sense, the challenges of offering an emission-neutral service, suitable for cities and the special needs of travelers and how they could be improved have focused the debate.
The objective of the Association of Mediterranean Cruise Ports with these sessions, as Francesca Antonelli, head of Valenciaport Cruises and senior vice president of MedCruise, has pointed out, is to jointly address the challenges presented by the industry by identifying opportunities and developing standards of good practice. At the end of the meeting, the members of the Board visited the Port of València, where they toured its cruise ship docks.
The association, which brings together 76 ports in the Mediterranean and adjacent seas, as well as 54 associate members, brings together the entire port and incoming cruise sector in the region. The association’s network of industry professionals includes ports, cruise lines, tourism authorities and service providers. This network facilitates collaboration, strategic partnerships and knowledge sharing, fostering growth and development in the cruise sector.
